Cappella Colleoni

Dedicated to the saints Bartholomew, Mark and John the Baptist, it was built between 1472 and 1476 as the personal shrine for the condottiere Bartolomeo Colleoni, a member of one of the most outstanding families of the city, and his beloved daughter Medea. The site chosen was that of the sacristy of the nearby church of Santa Maria Maggiore, which was demolished by Colleoni's soldiers.

Piazza Vecchia

From downtown to the top of the hill where your guided walking tour will pass through Piazza Vecchia, the heart of the old town.

Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore

The church was founded in 1137 on the site of another church from the 8th century dedicated to St Mary, which had been in turn erected over a Roman temple of the Clemence. The high altar was consecrated in 1185 and in 1187 the presbytery and the transept wings were completed. Due to financial troubles, the works dragged for the whole 13th–14th centuries. The bell tower was built from 1436 (being completed around the end of the century), while in 1481–1491 a new sacristy added after the old one had been destroyed by Bartolomeo Colleoni to erect his personal mausoleum, the Colleoni Chapel.

Brescia

Brescia, the second largest city in the region. It is located at the foot of the Alps, a few kilometers from Lake Garda and Iseo. An ancient city whose origins date back over 3,200 years ago, Brescia has a conspicuous artistic and architectural heritage: its monuments from the Roman and Longobard periods have been declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. Active in the manufacturing, engineering, textile, chemical and food industries, it is one of the main economic-productive centers of Italy and is known for the famous Mille Miglia vintage car race and for the production of Franciacorta.

Waste of time. This Zani Viaggi tour of Lake Como and Bellagio was a commercial enterprise designed to bring huge crowded buses to shop in tourist stores. The so-called tour contained minimal info. George Clooney’s house was pointed out across the lake and the older architectural sites such as the Cathedral in Como got about as much attention from our guides. 75 tourists packed in a bus. We ended up transferred to this tour because our tour to Brescia and Bergamo were cancelled because they apparently could not pack a full enough bus to make it worth their while.

Our favorite part of the tour was the pleasant tour guide that took us around. She was courteous, considered us in decisions, was informative and overall made it fun. I loved the upper city and wished we had ore time, knew the area and spoke more Italian to truly enjoy it but overall, I would highly recommend this tour. Hopefully your experience will be as good as ours. (Not sure if you can make requests but our tour guide was Imer)

Bergamo "Alta Città" is a must see in any case. By booking a guided tour, you get to more details. Unluckily the guides have their routine trip and in my case read the description of the sight seeing location from a sheet of paper. Anyhow this does not spoil the impression of the magnificent city.

The interior of Bergamo Catheral blew me away! It is absolutely amazing!!! The magnificent sculptures and paintings just made me want to cry. You need to see for yourself! As for Cappella Colleoni, you need to know some history about it. Knowing more about Colleoni will make your visit of his chapel very special!

the guide was great and very knowledgeable. It was a small little town on the outskirts of Milan not far.

This tour takes you to the town of Tivoli to visit Hadrian's Villa and Villa D'Este. Be advised that Tivoli is not a small town, so taking the train from Rome and then finding your way around Tivoli(which has an old section and a new section) can be problematic. We started off at Hadrian's Villa. I'm not much for ruins but our awesome guide Guiseppe made the place come alive. After a break for lunch (with recommendations from Guiseppe on where to eat and where to do a little shopping) it was on to Villa D'Este. This was my reason for booking this tour - to see the gardens and fountains, and I was not disappointed. I took a million photos of BOTH villas and can thoroughly recommend this tour.

This was a wonderful side trip from Milan. The presentation by our guide, Sara, made me fall in love with Bergamo. The history, food, and architecture well worth the short trip. The tour was fantastic but I would recommend staying a night or two. Once there, I didn’t want to leave.

Bergamo was AMAZING! I would say out of all the tours I took in Milan and surrounding areas that Bergamo was my favorite. This town in fascinating because you can see Veronian, Roman, and other styles all in one central area. The side streets are lined with houses and buildings and it is just a very nice short tour. I would have loved to have gone back and toured on my own! The one downfall is there was not enough time to eat a meal there and have a local dish!

Tour guide Sara was the best guide we've had in years. A Bergamo native, her passion and love of her city enhanced our day in a quaint and fascinating city. Don't miss this trip.

It was a terrible day--cold and rainy. This is a gorgeous city. Our guide was very knowledgeable and the town is lovely--one of my favorite in Italy.
