But the feast doesn't end there! Indulge in a delightful sit-down meal, surrounded by your newfound gastronomic companions, at one of Venice's most revered pasta restaurants. This extraordinary exploration, led by our passionate food aficionados, unveils a captivating tapestry of Venetian culture and history that often remains hidden from the gaze of ordinary tourists.

Ghetto Ebraico

(Pass by)

Jewish Ghetto Within the Canareggio district you'll find the charming Jewish Ghetto. The word "ghetto" originates from the Venetian term "ghèto," meaning foundry, as the area was once home to a copper foundry. However, over time, the term came to represent the confined living quarters for the Jewish community. Despite the restrictions and limitations imposed on them, the Jewish residents of the Venetian Ghetto managed to create a vibrant community that thrived intellectually, economically, and artistically. Our food tour will pass through this area where you'll get to experience a less tourist and more authentic side of Venice.

Sample Venetian Cicchetti and Bacari When venturing through Venice, there are two indispensable words that will unlock a world of culinary delights—cicchetti and bacari. Derived from the Venetian dialect, cicchetti refers to delectable bite-sized savory snacks, a true treat for the senses. These mouthwatering morsels can be found adorning the counters of various bacari, charming wine bars that have been an integral part of Venetian life for centuries. The roots of bacari trace back to the distant era of the 1300s, where they held a significant place in Venetian society. Your knowledgeable local guide, a true Venetian at heart, will unveil the fascinating history of these establishments. In the Italian culture, it is customary to accompany wine with a delectable accompaniment, ensuring a harmonious balance and preventing any overindulgence. And thus, a beautiful tradition emerged—enjoying wine in the company of cicchetti.

Try Italian Spritz Indulge your palate, whether it craves sweetness or revels in bitterness, for the world of spritzes offers a delight to suit every taste. Enter the realm of spritz connoisseurs, where the iconic Campari spritz and its counterpart, the Aperol spritz, reign supreme. Distinguished by its higher alcohol content and an intriguingly bitter profile, the Campari spritz delivers a unique experience for those seeking a more complex flavor palette. On the other hand, the Aperol spritz, with its vibrant hue and refreshing character, strikes a balance between sweet and bitter. Perhaps you've come across captivating images of individuals in Italy, gracefully sipping a luminous orange drink, delicately cradled in a stemmed glass—that, my friend, is the enchanting Aperol spritz. During your journey, an expert local bartender will impart the secrets of crafting this quintessential Italian aperitivo drink, allowing you to master the art of mixology.

Enjoy a Sit-Down Dinner In the enchanting realm of Venice, an "ombra" signifies more than just a small glass of wine—it carries with it a tale of tradition and history. Derived from the Italian word for "shade," this humble term holds a captivating legend within its syllables. At our third destination, you will partake in the joy of savoring the local ombra, immersing yourself in the ambiance of Venetian hospitality. As you indulge in a delectable dinner, featuring some of the finest pasta the city has to offer, allow the flavors to dance upon your palate, intertwining with the enchanting narrative of the ombra tradition. Embrace the legacy of Venice, where wine, shade, and conviviality intertwine, leaving an indelible mark upon your memory. Raise your glass and toast to the timeless spirit of ombra, celebrating the harmony of flavors and the vibrant tapestry of Venetian culinary heritage.

Discover the nuances of seasonal flavors, and uncover the essence that sets gelato apart from the ice cream you may be accustomed to back home. As the tour concludes, you may find yourself torn between continuing to explore the enchanting streets of Venice or seeking a moment of repose after an indulgent journey of flavors. Should you choose to extend your adventure, your guide will gladly point you towards captivating destinations. My husband and I always book a food tour when we arrive in a new city. This was hands down the worst tour we have ever booked. The guide was more interested in drinking with us and getting to dinner with his friends after the tour than he was telling us about the food we were eating/history of the food. However, that was not even the worst of it. It was a max size group, and they would bring out the food on 2 plates for 8 people. There were not enough small samples for all involved unless one of the guests preemptively cut all the portions for everyone, to try as the guide let it be a free for all. For example-one of the samples was 3 stuffed olives for 8 people.

Tour guides were friendly, informative and really made the tour!! The food and beverages were splendid, worth every penny! I would do it again in a heartbeat!!

We missed this tour due to a delayed train, totally out of our control and they were unable to rebook us or refund us.

We tried the Venetian spritz with delicious appetizers, then had wine with more appetizers beside the canal, then had pasta with wine in a cute restaurant and finished off with gelato!

Very informative walk and talk with Cecelia, learned so much about the culture of today's Venice. Several stops on the way for cichetti and spritzes and wine, then Venetian squid ink pasta and more wine, then gelato. Really a nice evening, ask for Cecelia!

Great to explore this area of Venice! Loved the ciccheti, spritz and gelato! The tour guide was wonderful! The "lunch" spot was ok, a bit touristy for an "authentic food tour". Our group was 6 which was perfect. Apparently, it can be booked for up to 10 people, which would detract from the experience. Overall, I highly recommend!

I was unfortunately unable to join the tour on time due to a train cancellation. Several attempts to contact the service provider through the channels provided to try to join the tour 30 minutes late was unsuccessful. Thei tour operated got back to me next day asking is I was able to join but without contact from them how was I to do so. Not even the Viator client service desk could get hold of them.

We really enjoyed the food tour and our guide Maria. There were 4 stops and plenty of food! All 8 of us on tour were full by the end. The guide even made substitutions for a person in the tour that did not eat any seafood. Great variety and choices. We also had places to sit in 3 of the locations which was great for me with bad ankles. Got to tour area of Venice that most people would not go to. Highly recommend this tour.

The tour guide was very good at describing the food we were eating at each stop and also provided valuable information about the Venetian culture. Very interesting tour.

This tour is good, you try some wine and a sprite, the wine is usually only and ounce, the spritz was a whole glass. You do not get much food, a sample of a couple things and the dinner at the end was just a bowl of pasta. I think we got spoiled by the food tour in Naples where we were served a full glass of wine or beer and full size appetizers everywhere we went and our meals at the end was a 5 course meal. So in comparison to our Naples food tour, this was less than we expected.
