Again this is just for a Livorno visit not the market,due to spend 2 days here but due to rough season we couldn't dock on the first day but got in on thr second, this is a totally commercial port so you have to take free shuttle bus out of port area and into city centre,this is usually waportfor pisa and Florence but all trips were cancelled,so just walked around for a while but not impressed at all so cought the shuttle back the ship
Our guide Laila was amazing: our cruise ship docked late, the town shuttle never showed and she waited for us, when the tour ended she drove us back to the ship! This was so much more than a food tasting tour: she is a local who clearly loves her town (and from everyone saying hello to her, she is beloved as well!). She gave us an historical walk as well as introducing us to some amazing food. The trip to the bustling food market was definitely a highlight and she helped me buy a variety of cheeses to take home (vacuum sealed chesses is ok for US citizens). This tour with Laila is a definite must for any foodie or person interested in genuine local history...far more then a 'tourist' experience. BOOK early as she keeps her groups small and this is very popular! Ciao Laila!
Laila provided an informative tour in a natural, fun way. Since she is a local citizen it was very interesting to hear her excitement and prospective. We met locals in the market and got to taste many delicious treats and learned about their history. I’d recommend this tour to anyone. Many thanks for this wonderful experience.
