Bologna is the under-appreciated (by Americans) food capital of Italy. What better way to experience it than with an intimate walking tour? We were fortunate to have such a tour with Gabriele Comida, our licensed food and beverage guide working with Secret Food Tours in Bologna. In Italy there are separate licenses for a history guide and a food guide and he is the latter. With our 7 stop 3.5+ hour tour, Gabriele showed us a wonderful sampling of the best Bologna has to offer. He knows the culture, the food establishments, the people who run them and the history of the food. He has a tremendous passion for the Bolognese cuisine, which is certainly among the richest known on this planet. His English is as excellent as his willingness to provide his guests with a perfect tour. 5 Stars!

One of the best food tours in my life. Our guide, Mattia, was so friendly, showed us a lot of things around the city. The atmosphere was just amazing while we were exploring city and different stops of the tour, Mattia told so many cool facts about food with passion and so much knowledge. It was fun, DELECIOUS and interesting.

A highly recommended experience when in Bologna. A great way to experience a bit of history of Bologna, combined with delicious local food. The highlight was visiting the pasta kitchen to see the ladies rolling the tagliatelli, & taglioni. A gathered lunch was shared with some wine & we finished with gelato. A must do.

My wife and I had a wonderful time wondering the streets of Bologna with our guide Claire as she introduced us to the food wonders of the area. She was very informative and frankly a very nice person. We have been on numerous food tours and can honestly say this was one of the best.

Mattia gave a clear, well prepared, thoroughly enjoyable tour. He is a local with loads of agricultural and historical knowledge. Make sure and ask him about his favorite foods.

I booked the Secret Food Tour for a group of 12 of us based on Tripadvisor reviews. However, my experience does not match the reviews that I saw! Our private group tour was set for 3.30 pm. We were advised not to eat lunch as there would be plenty to eat. We never ate anything as our guide did not turn up! We waited and waited in the heat and I endeavoured to contact the company to see what was going on. There is no telephone number available to contact the company, so I sent 4 emails whilst standing there and my husband managed to message them via whastapp. We were not provided with the name of our guide, with no telephone number of the guide or of the company itself! They did not even ask for my telephone number, so we were stuck waiting and waiting and getting more and more hungry and more and more frustrated until finally, after approx. 1 hour, we were informed that the company's medical team had been advised that the guide had been in a car accident. I am sincerely sorry for the guide and hope that he/she is OK. I appreciate that unfortunate things happen, however, if we had been provided with telephone number details we might have not had to wait in the unknown for 1 hour!! We were offered another day to do the tour, but we were on a strict schedule with no other dates available for it. We were offered a full refund but no compensation. Extremely disappointed!

Claire was an amazing and knowledgeable guide. Food was delicious and we went to some very unique places that we wouldn't have found otherwise. Highly reco this tour when in Bologna. Claire was also kind enough to send us her recommendations for Milan as well.

Gabriele was an amazing tour guide with so much knowledge of the history of the city and the history of the foods, balsamic vinegar and wines. Everything was delicious, and the people we were with on the tour were a fun group, so it made the experience even better! This is a must-experience for anyone who travels to Bologna.

Well organized tour. Small group, informative, you get to visit great, local places, and you definitely won’t leave hungry! We did the 10am tour, easily locating our guide who first walked us through the history of food in Bologna. We then tried everything from: a local bolognese breakfast raviole (not to be confused with ravioli pasta!), different ages of balsamic vinegar, various types of cured meats and cheese, as well as delicious meal of 2 types of pasta (where we also watched them make the fresh pasta!). We then washed it all down with some gelato. Gabriele was very informative and kindly ensured anyone who had to leave early (the tour ended around 12:30-1), was out on time. He even gave a takeaway/to-go back to someone who had to leave extra early. Highly recommend.
