Borgo Storico di Manarola

Manarola may be the oldest of the towns in the Cinque Terre, with the cornerstone of the church, San Lorenzo, dating from 1338. The local dialect is Manarolese, which is marginally different from the dialects in the nearby area. The name "Manarola" is probably a dialectical evolution of the Latin, "magna rota". In the Manarolese dialect this was changed to "magna roea" which means "large wheel", in reference to the mill wheel in the town. Then train from Manarola to Vernazza

Vernazza

Vernazza is the only natural port of the five villages. Being the wealthiest village its architecture is most elaborate. See the Castle of the Doria, look at the watchtowers, and do not miss the Romanesque sanctuary of Our Lady of Reggio. You will be amazed by its simplicity and yet fascinated by its architecture. In Vernazza we can have a cooling swim in the sea, a nice shower and we can enjoy a delicious lunch made of authentic Pesto Pasta and fresh Mediterrean seafood (not included in the price). Beautiful sightseeing on a great guided tour. Our tour guide Mario was fantastic, and a great wealth of knowledge. Mario had great recommendations in each place we visited. Be advised, there is a lot of uphill walking and stairs. Be ready for a day of physically demanding activity.

We started the day early and set out for the drive to beautiful Cinque Terre. Mariana was wonderful! She spoke to us along the drive about the collection of towns making up the community and where we would be stopping. We learned so much along the way. The locations were amazing! Rioaggiore was our first stop and we ate at a cute little spot along the street that had outside seating. Sorry for not remembering the name. A delicious start to the day, don’t miss out on the glass of fresh squeezed orange juice ;), fabulous. The walk down the road is steep but the shops along the way make it so pleasant. We had some time to walk around and then headed to the train. The next stop was Manarola with its beautiful homes sprinkled in mountains overlooking the water, you can climb a path to get some great pictures and a great view. Last but not least was Vernazza which is just aa stunning with the beautiful homes. Cute little shops line the way, as well as little restaurants with great smells everywhere. You feel so thankful to be there with such beauty and the restaurant with the umbrellas overlooking the water was perfect for lunch We never felt rushed but definitely want to go back! We then took the train back to the first stop and headed back up the hill which was a great way to work off our lunch. We headed to Pisa, its touristy but we saw it and got the iconic picture;) Overall a 5 star tour. Mariana couldn’t have been better, she was a great guide on our travels and we thoroughly enjoyed her insight. Bravo

Daniel our guide was great he gave us plenty of time at each place we stoped and was very warm and hospitable. He was knowledgeable of the sites that we saw and gave us a great treat at the end of the tour. He even dropped us off at our hotel which was a short walk from the pickup point.
