Galleria Borghese

The Borghese Gallery is undoubtedly one of the most interesting, charming, elegant, and compact art museums in the world. It's not chronologically arranged, but is instead a very personal collection that reveals the personalities and tastes of two people: Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the greatest of Baroque artists, and Scipione Cardinal Borghese, the greatest art collector and the man who actually initiated the Roman Baroque. Borghese's collection includes works such as Raffaello's Woman with the Unicorn, Domenichino's Diana, Botticelli's Madonna and Child, Caravaggio's David, and Bernini's Apollo and Daphne, just to name a few. Behind the works are untold stories of art being stolen from churches, artists being sent to jail, workshops being devastated by Borghese's confiscations, mysterious deaths, and other innumerable stories of intrigue and passion. Borghese Gallery Tour includes but is not limited to: • The Caravaggio Room (St. Jerome, David with the Head of Goliath) • Bernini sculptures (Apollo and Daphne, David) • Canova sculpture (Pauline Bonaparte) • Works by Raphael (The Deposition, Lady with Unicorn) • Perugino (Madonna and Child) • Rubens (The Deposition) • Titian (Sacred and Profane Love)

I didn't take this tour, but I did purchase admission tickets thru Alwaysrome. They did not show up at the appointed time to give me my tickets. DO NOT use this company. They are a scam. Don't make the same mistake I did.

We really enjoyed our guiding because our guide put information into context, highlighted details that we would have never understood by ourselves, made the guiding interesting and relevant and overall we feel that we gained some valuable insight into the roman history.

The gallery has so many paintings and sculptures and we could not have made sense of them or known what to focus on by ourselves. Pia was so knowledgeable about the history, the art , and the social/ political events that gave meaning and context to our visit. So wonderful. Pia was funny and entertaining as well as having expertise.

This visit is a must, our guide Kylie was perfect. She paid a lot of attention to the Group, got the proper tempo and organized the visit in such a way that we were never bothered by other visitors. Everything was perfect: on time, very interesting comments on content, very enthusiastic and professionalism guide. Beautiful and awesome place. Great, thank you.

Definitely worth it to have a guide for this amazing place. Guide was very informative on the art and the artists. Would highly recommend.

Our tour guide Irene was a lot of fun. You could tell she had a huge passion for everything there and even more knowledge. My favorite part about the gallery was that each room kind of had its own theme, e.g. Egypt, David and Goliath, etc. The only thing I didn't like was that no pictures were "aloud" in the entire place — my memory of this place might get lost in the shuffle considering how many places we've been this trip.

The tour with Kylie of Storytelling Tours was truly excellent. She was able to seamlessly weave together information about art history, artistic techniques, cultural circumstances and political influence to make the works come alive in context. The gallery truly has masterpieces and Kylie helped us appreciate how truly spectacular they are.

The Borghese Gallery was outstanding. The tour was very informative but very restricted. When it was finished we only had 20 minutes to walk around. The collection requires more time to review after the tour.

One of the most beautiful museums of Rome, include a lot of works of Bernini, Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio, and much more, many very nice marble sculptures, as the half nacked Pauline Borghese, the sister of Napoleon, she is posed as a nice Venus in the entrance, also a very nice statue of David, a self portrait, sculpture of Apollo and Daphne, Bacchus; on first floor of the gallery a serie of self -portraits done by Bernini. This Gallery is much visited, make reservation a week before. for your ticket.

This was our second visit to the Borghese and it exceeded expectations. Renata was an amazing guide who was able to enhance the beauty of the art with her knowledge. Highly recommended.
