Apollonia Archaeological Park: A Journey Through Ancient Illyria

Apollonia Archaeological Park, located near the village of Pojan in Albania, offers a captivating journey into the past. The city's decline began in the 3rd century AD due to silting of its harbor and a devastating earthquake in the 4th century AD that altered the landscape. Today, visitors can explore the extensive ruins of Apollonia, including the Bouleuterion (council house), the Odeon (theater), the Library, the Monument of Agonothetes, and Roman villas with mosaic floors. The Archaeological Museum, housed in the 13th-century Monastery of Saint Mary, displays a rich collection of artifacts unearthed at the site, providing insights into the city's history and culture.
