Discover more about National Park of Lura

Lura National Park, officially known as Lurë-Dejës Mt National Park since 2018, is a mesmerizing natural haven in northeastern Albania. Spanning over 202 square kilometers, the park is characterized by its rugged terrain, which ranges from 1,500 to 2,300 meters in altitude. The park's diverse ecosystems encompass twelve stunning glacial lakes, often referred to as 'The Crown of Lura,' each possessing its own unique charm. Formed during the Ice Age, these lakes are nestled among vast forests of European beech, silver fir, black pine, and red pine. The most notable lakes include the Great Lake (Liqeni i Madh), the Lake of Pines, the Black Lake (Liqeni i Zi), and the Lake of Flowers (Liqeni i Luleve). The Lake of Flowers is particularly striking, adorned with white water lilies that create the impression of a floating garden. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including the European brown bear, Eurasian lynx, Eurasian wolf, roe deer, and various bird species. The southern section features the Field of Mares, a meadow filled with colorful wildflowers and coniferous trees, offering scenic views. Lura National Park provides ample opportunities for hiking, camping, wildlife watching, and cultural encounters in nearby villages. Despite facing challenges from deforestation in the past, ongoing conservation efforts aim to restore its delicate ecosystems.
