Discover more about Virgin Gorda Peak

Gorda Peak National Park, established in 1974, encompasses 260 acres and protects one of the last remaining examples of Caribbean dry forests. Rising to 1,370 feet (417 meters), Gorda Peak is the highest point on Virgin Gorda, offering breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding islands, including Anegada, Tortola, and St. John on a clear day. The park features two main trails to the summit. The longer trail, accessed from the lower entrance, offers a more gradual incline and takes approximately 45-50 minutes to reach the top. The shorter trail, accessed from the higher entrance, is steeper and more moderate, taking around 25 minutes. Both trails wind through lush vegetation, including mahogany trees, orchids, and cacti. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, such as hermit crabs and the endemic Virgin Gorda dwarf sphaero, one of the world's smallest lizards. At the summit, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views. While a fire tower once stood at the top, it collapsed due to Hurricane Irma. However, a large boulder with a ladder offers an alternative vantage point. Picnic tables are available near the summit, providing a perfect spot to rest and enjoy the scenery. Gorda Peak National Park is a must-visit for nature lovers and hikers seeking stunning views and a glimpse into the unique ecology of the British Virgin Islands.
