Discover more about Parc Bangr Weogo

Parc Bangr Weogo, often called the green lung of Ouagadougou, is a 240-hectare urban park providing a sanctuary from the city's hustle and bustle. The park's name translates to 'forest of knowledge' in Mooré, reflecting its role as a center for environmental education and a place to reconnect with nature.Originally, the area was a forest owned by the Mossi chiefs, who protected it and kept animals, sacred sites, and objects within its boundaries. In 1932, the forest was demarcated, and in 1936, it was officially classified with specific objectives, including protecting the banks of the Ouagadougou dams. From 1995 to 2000, the area was developed, cleaned up from being a dumping ground, and ultimately returned to the Commune of Ouagadougou on January 5, 2001.Today, visitors can explore well-kept paths, enjoy the diverse flora and fauna, and visit a small zoo that houses injured or non-releasable animals. The park also features a museum displaying traditional costumes, masks, and ancestral statues, offering insights into Burkina Faso's rich cultural heritage. It's a popular spot for recreation, exercise, and quiet contemplation, with locals and tourists alike appreciating its peaceful surroundings.
