Public Transport

To reach Bururi Forest Nature Reserve via public transport, take a taxi-brousse (shared minivan) from Bujumbura's central station towards Bururi. The journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Ask the driver to drop you off at Burunga. From there, hire a local taxi or walk the remaining 5 km to the reserve entrance. Expect to pay around 2,000 to 3,000 BIF for the taxi-brousse from Bujumbura to Burunga. A local taxi from Burunga to the reserve may cost an additional 5,000-10,000 BIF. Note that public transport can be affected by fuel shortages, potentially increasing costs.

If driving from Bujumbura, head south on Avenue du Commerce and take the N1 road towards Bururi. After approximately 30 km, look for signs directing you to Burunga.
