    From I-25, take the Cimarron Street exit west. Cimarron Street turns into Highway 24. Turn left onto Ridge Road after the 31st Street light. Red Rock Canyon Open Space is on the south side of the street. The main parking lot is just past the traffic circle at the entrance. Parking is free. Limited parking is available, especially on weekends.

    From downtown Colorado Springs, take Mountain Metro Transit Route 3 towards Manitou Springs. The bus stops along Colorado Avenue. Get off at the stop near Red Rock Canyon Open Space. From the bus stop, walk a short distance to the park entrance. A single fare is $1.75.

In the late 1800s, the area became a hub for quarrying, providing gypsum, building sand, and sandstone for the growing communities of Old Colorado City, Manitou Springs, and Fountain. The Kenmuir Quarry was a major operation, running seven days a week to meet the demand for building materials. The Colorado-Philadelphia Company Mill also operated here, refining ore from the Cripple Creek gold mines. In the 20th century, the land transitioned through various owners, including John George Bock, whose family envisioned a resort community. Ultimately, in 2003, the City of Colorado Springs purchased the property, transforming it into the public open space it is today. Today, Red Rock Canyon Open Space offers a diverse range of activities. Over 10 miles of trails wind through the park, catering to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders of all skill levels. Explore the Contemplative Trail, Sand Canyon Trail, or the Mesa/Greenlee Trail loop for panoramic views.
