The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park is more than just a bridge; it's a destination where natural beauty meets human ingenuity. The park's centerpiece, the Royal Gorge Bridge, was built in 1929 and held the record for the world's highest bridge until 2001. Spanning 1,260 feet across the gorge, the bridge provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Arkansas River and the surrounding landscape. Visitors can walk across the 1,257 wooden planks of the bridge, suspended nearly 1,000 feet above the river, for an unforgettable experience. The park also offers aerial gondola rides that provide 360-degree views of the gorge. For thrill-seekers, there's the Royal Rush Skycoaster, which swings riders out over the rim of the gorge, and the Cloudscraper Zip Line, which soars 1,200 feet above the Arkansas River. Beyond the adrenaline-pumping attractions, the park features the Tommy Knocker Playland for children, a theater showcasing the park's history, and several dining options with scenic views. The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park has a rich history, dating back millions of years when the Arkansas River began carving the gorge. The area was also home to dinosaurs and later used by Native American tribes. In 2013, a wildfire swept through the park, causing significant damage, but the community rallied together to rebuild and reopen in 2015. Today, the park continues to offer a blend of history, adventure, and natural beauty for visitors of all ages.
