    The Arenal Volcano National Park Visitor Center is approximately a 30-minute drive from La Fortuna. Set your GPS to "Arenal Volcano National Park Visitor Center." A 4x4 is not required to reach the visitor center. Parking is free with your park entrance fee. From Tilarán, take Route 142 for 17 km to the visitor center. There are signs to guide you.

    A local bus travels from La Fortuna to near the national park. Buses depart from La Fortuna bus station at 8 AM and 2 PM; a ticket costs about $5 USD. The bus will drop you off at the intersection of the main road and the entrance road. From there, it is about a 1.2-mile (2 km) walk or hitchhike to the visitor center. From San José, take the bus to La Fortuna. From La Fortuna, take the local bus to the park.
