Discover more about The Peninsula, Arenal Volcano National Park

The Peninsula Sector, inaugurated in 2017, presents a tranquil alternative to the main Volcano Sector of Arenal Volcano National Park. Situated on a peninsula jutting into Lake Arenal, it provides breathtaking panoramic views of the lake and the imposing Arenal Volcano. This sector is characterized by its well-maintained, mostly flat trails, making it accessible to visitors of all fitness levels. The Peninsula Sector features two primary trails: Los Miradores (The Viewpoint Trail) and El Tororoi Trail (The Antpitta Bird Trail). Los Miradores, the longer of the two, leads to several vantage points, including a 12-meter observation tower, offering elevated perspectives of the surrounding landscape. El Tororoi Trail, named after a local bird species, provides a shorter loop through the rainforest, with opportunities for wildlife sightings. While the volcano has been in a resting phase since 2010, its iconic presence continues to dominate the landscape, offering a dramatic backdrop to the park's natural beauty. The Peninsula Sector is also a haven for wildlife, with opportunities to spot monkeys, coatis, birds, and other rainforest inhabitants. The sector's trails wind through a mix of primary and secondary rainforest, showcasing the region's rich biodiversity. Unlike the Volcano Sector, the Peninsula Sector generally experiences fewer crowds, providing a more peaceful and intimate connection with nature. The trails are well-marked and easy to navigate, making it an ideal choice for families and those seeking a less strenuous hiking experience.
