The Lungomare, also known as the Franz Joseph I Promenade, is a stunning 12-kilometer coastal path connecting the towns of Volosko, Opatija, Ičići, Ika, and Lovran. Built in stages starting in 1885, it offers breathtaking views, historic landmarks, and a blend of nature and Austro-Hungarian architecture.

Walking
From the Opatija city center, head towards the coast on Ulica Maršala Tita. Continue until you reach the waterfront promenade, Obalno šetalište Franje Josipa I. Turn left to start your stroll along the Lungomare. The promenade is easily accessible from most points in Opatija, with clear signposts. No costs are associated with accessing the Lungomare.

Public Transport
From Opatija Bus Station, take bus line 32, 34, 35, or 36 towards the coast. Get off at a stop near the waterfront, such as Slatina. From there, walk towards the sea to find the Lungomare. Bus tickets cost around 8 HRK if purchased at a kiosk or 16 HRK if purchased from the driver. A round-trip ticket purchased at a kiosk costs 26 HRK.

Taxi
Taxis are readily available in Opatija. A short taxi ride from the Opatija Bus Station or a major hotel to the Lungomare will typically cost between 50 HRK and 80 HRK, depending on the distance and traffic.

Driving
If driving, navigate to Opatija city center and find parking near the coast. Parking can be limited, especially during peak season. Paid parking is available in several lots, with hourly rates ranging from 5 HRK to 15 HRK. Daily tickets are also available for around 100 HRK. Parking lots near the Lungomare include Slatina (Ul. Maršala Tita 166a) and one at Ul. Maršala Tita 190. Be aware of parking zones and payment requirements.
