Discover more about AaltoAlvari - Swimming Hall by Alvar Aalto

AaltoAlvari, situated in Jyväskylä, is a unique aquatic center designed by the iconic Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. Completed in 1955 as part of Aalto's vision for the Jyväskylä University campus, it stands as the only swimming hall designed by him. Over the years, the facility has expanded, with additions in the 1960s, 70s, and 90s, evolving into a versatile spa-like center. The original design features a 25-meter pool, with later additions including a children’s pool, a gym, a 50-meter pool, and a spa section with a wave pool, slides, and hydro-massage points. AaltoAlvari harmoniously blends curved lines and natural materials, creating a welcoming atmosphere filled with natural light. The facility also offers fitness classes and swimming lessons. Saunas, an essential part of Finnish culture, provide a relaxing experience after a swim. Protected by law since 1992 (excluding the spa section), AaltoAlvari represents Finnish architectural innovation, combining practical swimming facilities with educational spaces. It's a must-visit for those seeking leisure, fitness, and a touch of Finnish design history.
