Car
If you are driving, start by heading towards the Silfra parking area, which is located off the main road (Route 36) in Þingvellir National Park. From the park entrance, follow the signs for Silfra. The parking lot is approximately 4 km from the park's main entrance. Make sure to park in the designated area, as parking is limited. Note that there is a parking fee of around ISK 750 (as of 2023) which can be paid at the self-service machines in the parking lot.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, you will need to take a bus from Reykjavik to Þingvellir National Park. Look for the bus companies that operate services to Þingvellir, such as Sterna or Reykjavik Excursions. The trip takes approximately 1 hour. Once you arrive at the park, you will need to walk to the Silfra area, which is about a 45-minute walk (approximately 3.5 km) from the bus stop. Follow the signs for Silfra; the path is well-marked. Ensure you check the bus schedule for your return journey, as buses may not run frequently.
Guided Tour
Consider joining a guided tour that includes transportation from Reykjavik to Silfra. Many tour operators offer packages that provide both transport and snorkeling/diving experiences. This option is convenient as it eliminates the need for navigation and parking. Prices for guided tours vary but typically start around ISK 15,000 to ISK 25,000 per person, which includes equipment rental and a guide.
