Car
If you are driving from Reykjavik, take Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading southeast. Continue on Route 1 for about 60 kilometers until you reach the junction with Route 38. Take Route 38 towards Hveragerði. After about 15 kilometers, you will merge onto Route 36. Continue on Route 36 for another 17 kilometers until you reach the turnoff for Hellishelðivegur. Drive along Hellishelðivegur for approximately 5 kilometers, and you will find the Hveradalir Geothermal Area on your right. Look for the parking area to safely park your car.
Public Transportation
To reach Hveradalir Geothermal Area using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Reykjavik to Hveragerði. The bus departs from the BSI Bus Terminal in Reykjavik. The journey will take about 1 hour. Once you arrive in Hveragerði, you will need to transfer to a local taxi or shuttle service that can take you to Hellishelðivegur. It is best to check in advance for available taxi services, as they may not always be readily available. Inform the driver that you want to go to Hveradalir Geothermal Area, which is approximately 15 kilometers from Hveragerði.
