Car
If you are driving, head towards Downpatrick. From the A24, take the exit towards the A25 at the roundabout. Follow the A25 for approximately 6 miles until you reach Strangford. Look for signs to Castle Ward Estate. The entrance to the estate is well marked. Once inside, follow the signs to the Bunkhouse, located on the estate grounds. Note that parking is available on-site, and there may be a small fee for entering the estate.

Public Transportation
To reach Castle Ward Bunkhouse using public transport, take a bus from any major town in the Mourne Mountains area (such as Newcastle or Kilkeel) to Downpatrick. Once in Downpatrick, transfer to a local bus that heads towards Strangford. The bus stop for Strangford is near the entrance to Castle Ward Estate. From there, it is a short walk to the Bunkhouse, following the signs within the estate. Be sure to check the bus schedules ahead of time, as they may vary.

Walking from Downpatrick
If you prefer to walk from Downpatrick, it is approximately a 5-mile hike to Castle Ward Bunkhouse. Start at the Downpatrick bus station and walk along the A25 towards Strangford. After about 1.5 miles, take a left onto the B181, which leads directly to the entrance of Castle Ward Estate. The walk will take around 1.5 to 2 hours, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
