If you are driving from Almaty, head east on Abay Avenue towards the intersection with Kazybek Bi Street. Continue straight onto Gogol Street, then take a left onto Tole Bi Street. Follow Tole Bi until you reach the intersection with Kainar Street, where you will turn right. After about 5 km, Kainar Street will lead you into the foothills of the Tian Shan mountains. Continue on the main road, which eventually becomes the road to the Tien-Shan Astronomical Observatory located at 3X5C+2HC, Almaty. Parking is available near the observatory.

Public Transportation

From Almaty, you can take a bus from the main bus station (Avtovokzal) to the Tian Shan area. Buses heading to the mountains typically leave every hour. Ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop to the Tien-Shan Astronomical Observatory. After disembarking, you may need to walk or take a taxi for the last few kilometers to reach the observatory. The taxi ride from the bus drop-off point to the observatory should cost around 1500-2000 KZT.

If you prefer a more direct route, you can book a taxi from anywhere in Almaty directly to the Tien-Shan Astronomical Observatory. Alternatively, use a ride-sharing app if available. The fare will typically range from 3000 to 5000 KZT, depending on your pick-up location in Almaty and traffic conditions.

Hiking

For the adventurous, if you are already in the Tian Shan region, you can hike to the observatory from nearby hiking trails. This will require a good level of fitness and preparation. Ensure to check local maps for trails leading to the vicinity of the observatory, and carry sufficient water and supplies for the hike.
