Getting There

• Walking

  Start at the Hood River Waterfront Park. Head east on Oak Street towards the Columbia River. After approximately 0.5 miles, you will reach the intersection at 1st Street. Continue straight onto the Historic Columbia River Hwy, which is well-marked. Follow the path along the river, enjoying the views. The trail is paved and accessible, making it easy to navigate. After about 1 mile, you will see signs indicating the Historic Columbia River Hwy State Trail. The entrance to the trail is on your left, with additional signage to direct you.

• Biking

  If you have access to a bicycle, start at the Hood River Marina. Head north on the waterfront path. Continue along the path until it merges onto the Historic Columbia River Hwy State Trail. This is a scenic route that runs alongside the river. It’s approximately a 2-mile ride to the main viewing areas of the trail, where you can enjoy picturesque views of the Columbia River Gorge. Be sure to obey any posted signs along the trail for safety and guidance.

• Public Transit

  From the Hood River downtown area, catch the local bus service at the bus stop located on 2nd Street. Board the bus that heads toward the Historic Columbia River Hwy. Inform the driver of your destination and follow their guidance. The bus will take you close to the entrance of the trail. Once you disembark, walk a short distance to find the trail entrance marked by signs.
