Getting There

  • Bus

    From Coimbra, head to the main bus terminal, Terminal Rodoviário de Coimbra, located near the city center. You can get there by walking or taking a local bus. Once at the terminal, purchase a ticket for the bus to Carregal do Sal. The journey will take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. When you arrive at the Carregal do Sal bus station, exit and head south on Rua da Estação until you reach the main road (N234). Turn left and continue walking for about 15 minutes, following the signs towards Orca da Palheira, which is located in the nearby countryside.

  • Train and Bus

    First, make your way to the Coimbra-B train station. You can take a local bus or walk (about 30 minutes from the city center). At Coimbra-B, take a train heading towards Viseu. Get off at the station Carregal do Sal, which will take about 1 hour. Once you arrive at Carregal do Sal, exit the train station and walk to the nearby bus stop to catch a local bus or walk approximately 20 minutes south on the N234 towards Orca da Palheira.

  • Walking

    If you are up for a long hike, you can walk from Coimbra to Orca da Palheira. Start at the University of Coimbra and head towards the city’s outskirts. Follow the path to the south towards N234. This is a considerable distance (about 25 kilometers), so it is recommended to take breaks and bring water and snacks.
