Getting There

• Car

  Begin your journey from any point in the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you're starting from Boone, NC, take NC-105 S for about 14 miles. Merge onto US-221 S and continue for about 10 miles. Then, turn left onto NC-18 S, which will lead you directly toward Traphill. After approximately 10 miles, turn right onto Brinegar Cabin Road, which will take you to the cabin's parking area. The cabin is located within Doughton Park, so ensure you have a valid parking pass if required. Note: There may be a small parking fee, typically around $5 for a day pass. Follow the signs to Brinegar Cabin from the parking area.

• Public Transportation + Car

  If you are using public transportation, first take a bus to Boone, NC. From there, you can either rent a car or use a rideshare service. Once in a vehicle, follow the same directions as above: take NC-105 S, then merge onto US-221 S, turn left onto NC-18 S, and finally turn onto Brinegar Cabin Road. Remember to check the schedule for bus services in advance to coordinate your trip effectively.

• Hiking (if nearby)

  For those who are already hiking in the area, the Brinegar Cabin can be accessed via several trails that connect to Doughton Park. Make sure to download a trail map beforehand. The most common access point is from the Basin Cove Trail, which leads directly to the cabin. Ensure you wear appropriate hiking gear and bring plenty of water as the hike can be strenuous depending on your starting point.
