Car

From any location within Bighorn National Forest, head towards U.S. Highway 14. If you're near the town of Buffalo, take U.S. Highway 16 west until you reach the intersection with U.S. Highway 14. Turn east onto U.S. Highway 14 and continue for approximately 40 miles. The Cal Taggart Visitor Center is located at 20 U.S. 14, Lovell, WY 82431. Look for the signage indicating the visitor center, which is situated just off the highway. Parking is available on-site.

Public Transportation

There are limited public transportation options directly to the Cal Taggart Visitor Center. If you are near the city of Cody, you can take the local bus service to Lovell. Once in Lovell, you may need to use a taxi or rideshare service to reach the visitor center, which is about a 12-minute drive from downtown Lovell. It is advisable to check local schedules in advance, as service may not be frequent.

Bicycle

For those who enjoy cycling, you can bike from various campgrounds and trails within Bighorn National Forest. Make your way to U.S. Highway 14 and travel east. The route is approximately 30-40 miles depending on your starting point in the forest. Always wear a helmet and be cautious of vehicle traffic on the highway. There are no dedicated bike lanes, so ensure you are familiar with road cycling safety.

Hiking

If you're feeling adventurous, you can hike from nearby trails in Bighorn National Forest towards Lovell. This is a more strenuous option and requires a good level of fitness. Plan your route in advance, as the hike can be quite long, taking several hours. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks. You will need to navigate to U.S. Highway 14, after which it’s a short walk to the visitor center.
