Your Itinerary

Al Shahaniya Racetrack

The entire territory is reserved for breeding, training and camel racing. As a rule, representatives of the local large Sudanese population are engaged in this, since they have long established themselves as experienced specialists in camel breeding. There are stables, a feed shop, and a large well-kept sand track where the camels travel over lengthy lengths of 10 to 15 kilometers (nowadays with robotic jockeys). Camel racing is incredibly popular in Qatar, so much so that a whole television channel was created dedicated to broadcasting camel racing, both in Qatar itself and in other countries. The doors for visitors are open every day at 9:30 in the morning or in the evening, around 5:30 in the evening, it is at this time that camels are brought for training. A visit to the Al-Shahaniya camel racetrack is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the best-groomed and most costly camels on the earth, some of which are worth one million Qatari riyals.

Zekreet Fort Ruins

Fort Zekrit is a favorite tourist destination, which has a lot to offer for a variety of tastes and colors. You can go to see the buildings of the 18th century, visit the ruins of ancient cities, which often become a subject of interest for historians. When looking at the fort's coastline side, visitors may come across madabes rubble. These were the same rooms that were used to make 'debis' a traditional date-based delicacy. Travelers may uncover 10 cm deep parallel channels in the chambers that are connected to the canal at the entrance.

EAST-WEST / WEST-EAST by Richard Serra

Richard Serra, an internationally recognized artist, introduces the stunning East-West/West-East sculpture to the desert environment, bringing art to the people. This stunning artwork in the Brouq natural reserve stretches over a kilometer and is made up of four fourteen-metre-high steel plates. Serra researched the land's topography and elegantly improved the huge, lonely area in the center of the desert to ensure flawless alignment. The end product is magnificent and, although modern, ageless.

Film City

Film City, on the Ras-Abrouq peninsula, was formerly a fishing community that was abandoned in the 1970s. The location was largely reconstructed in 2009 to serve as the scene for either a Hollywood production or a local film, depending on who you ask. This remote location is a reproduction of a historic Arabic town set against the backdrop of the country's lone canyon on the Zekreet peninsula. This little village features classic mud-brick buildings with wooden doors, a mosque, minarets, a plethora of gates and doors, and a nice lookout location for some rest.
