I really enjoyed Rossa’s crash course in Archeology at The British Museum. It’s clear that a lot of thought has been put into the design of the tour, with Rossa taking us on a adventurous timeline that starts with the very first hominids and their tools, through hunter-gather times, to the beginning of agriculture, first villages, town and cities, right on to the achievements of Mesopotamia, the Roman Empire, The Saxons, Victorian London and Paris, and on to the present day!
He uses this timeline along with zipping from exhibit hall to exhibit hall, to demonstrate the developments, concepts and discoveries from both a human and archeological perspective.
Rosa is an excellent, likeable and knowledgeable guide who is obviously passionate about what he does.
The British Museum is a wonderfully interesting, yet intimidating place. It can be hard to know where to start, or in what context to view the exhibits. Having visited before with no guide, this experience blew previous visits out of the water with the clarity, meaning and sense of understanding with the narrative that Rossa brought us on.
I’d highly recommend this tour. At 5 hours long it is a true commitment, however there are breaks for lunch, refreshments and bathroom breaks, and to be honest the day just flew by!
Thanks Rossa. I’d highly recommend this your for anyone who wishes to really get an understanding of archeology and The British Museum!

We really enjoyed the information that Rossa presented, and the way in which he presented it. Let’s face it, there’s no way that anyone can digest the British Museum in a single visit. The way the Museum is laid out is in two wings per floor, and four floors, and a person could spend a day in each wing. But the way in which Rossa approaches the history he presents, he cherry-picks details from several wings, and ties them together in a way that makes it more digestible. The focus of his tour is on the history of civilization, and on how the British Museum has contributed to the world’s understanding of the evolution of civilization. Our interest was on the history of the ancient world, with a focus on the archeology of Mesopotamia which the British Museum pioneered, and Rossa did a great job of helping us to comprehend it.

The guide was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. However, because this course was not being given in a classroom but in the British Museum, I would have preferred less pedantic details and more of an opportunity to view the exhibits. We only saw maybe 6 or 7 objects. While I gained a lot of information about each one, the Museum offers so many objects/exhibits from all over the world, from so many time periods, I would have liked to have seen more. Also, we did not make use of our early entry since we spent the first 30 minutes or more before an exhibit that was more of a map than artifact. We did not get to the Rosetta Stone or Elgin Marbles until late in the day. The tour, with about 40 minutes for lunch, lasted almost 6 hours. Very long.

The most interesting 5 hours of our trip! Outstanding!! Rossa was exciting and clear and fascinating as he took us chronologically through the museum. It was packed full of information. I LOVED this tour. Though this is not a complaint, I just want to point out that if it is your goal to see as much as possible of the museum, you could be disappointed. This really is about learning while enjoying select objects in the collection. Truly one of the best tours I’ve ever taken in Europe. Tip: when you enter look around for little folding chairs—Ross’s found a few, and it was good. The 5 hours flew by because it was so engrossing, but I might have had trouble doing all the standing.
