Achilles Hotel

We don’t normally do package holidays. But this one was with Jet2. And we had an amazing stay at this hotel. The rooms were fully equipped with a mini fridge, storage, safe, air con, comfortable bed etc. and finished to a nice standard. The bathroom and shower was clean modern and well finished. The cleaning and maid service was excellent. The views from the rooms balcony were amazing. The pool is stunning (but very cold). And all the hotel reception and eating areas were very well finished. The breakfasts were absolutely amazing as was the service. Our hosts were charming and ever helpful. It had a real feel of a family hotel. I would recommend it all.

Achilles Hill Hotel Methoni Peloponnese Greece We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights as part of a vacation package with Jet 2. The hotel has the WOW factor for sure as the views across towards the sea from both the rooms and the pool terrace are just out of this world and have to be seen to be believed. The hotel is elevated as it is built on the side of a hill facing southwest (more of that in a while) so it has just an amazing panoramic view and sunset over towards the ancient Venetian built castle complex on the peninsula The saltwater swimming pool is a large 25 meters+ infinity pool at all one depth of 1.4 meters that makes it ideal for swimming lengths of just cooling off and enjoying yourself in the water. Our room on the lower ground floor was garden level. It was large and spacious and fully equipped with a kettle and tea and coffee provided and the room also included a small refrigerator. The bed was super king and amazingly comfortable. The on-suite bathroom was a good size with a really good walk-in shower with plenty of high-pressure hot water. Shower gel and shampoo are provided and the towels can be changed daily. Although the hotel was busy with guests it was generally very quiet with no annoying or disturbing noises by day or night. The communal areas are very modern and contemporary. The pool terrace and restaurant bar are the main focus of activity and they are also very spacious with plenty of sun beds around the pool. The to-order food menu is limited more to snacks and café food but well cooked and presented the menu is served until 20:00h but no dinner menu service is offered. The breakfast is also served here but to be honest, the breakfast is not the best, it has a very limited choice of bread, jams, yoghurt, fruit and cakes. The hot offering of fried eggs, readymade omelettes, bacon and small spicy sausages were kept in hot water food servers at a very low tepid temperature. I avoided them as I like hot food to be hot! Also, toasted bread was chargeable per slice which I found unusual as it is the only hotel I’ve stayed in that makes a charge for toasting some bread for breakfast. On the more positive side, the hotel is owned and mostly staffed by family owners who are charming and a delight, they are so friendly and helpful that nothing is too much trouble, and they try their best to make your stay in their hotel extra special and relaxing. They will arrange a car hire to be delivered and collected from the hotel at a very competitive rate €50 per day for a small car including all insurances and in my opinion you are going to need a car if you are to maximise your holiday experience in Methoni we certainly did. While the hotel is absolutely beautiful and comfortable and has amazing views it is also very isolated and on its own. The hotel is about two or more kilometres or a 25/ 30 minute walk out from Methoni town where the managed beaches and dinner restaurants and bars are. Also, the access to the hotel off the main road going up is via a 100-meter VERY steep hill that is not suitable at all for anyone with walking or mobility problems so be warned. As always with hotel reviews the question is; Would we stay there again? The answer is a positive YES hopefully next year.

Not long come back from a wonderful 2 week stay in Methoni. Let’s start with the airport, expect a queue entering and leaving it’s only small, transfers are reasonably quick, thank god for Greek bus drivers how they get where they take the buses is beyond me. For the Achilles Hill Hotel you get dropped on the main road at the bottom of the short but quite steep incline to the hotel but when you see the view it’s worth it. Check in was really quick and we were shown to our room which was nice. The room itself has everything you could want fridge, air con (no charges which is not always the case in Greece), kettle and Tv (bbc world news and some English shows with Greek subtitles on Greek channels). The room itself was spotlessly clean with amazing views. Breakfast is pretty repetitive but plenty to mix and match to change it up, the hot items were only warm but hey it all goes to the same place. There are plenty of places to sit and relax around the pool and plenty of sunbeds etc. the pool itself is really nice 25m so you can get your lengths in or just hang on the side looking over Methoni❤️ We ate at the hotel in the afternoon several times, it’s a lil dearer than the town but really nice food and good portions. Loved the Greek pizza. Methoni town is approx 1km away from the hotel but it’s a nice walk in the evening, but not a lot to see or do except stroll around. There are plenty of options to eat out in the square and up the Main Street, also Methoni Camping restaurant on the way to the town (don’t be put off by the name food is good). We ate at several of the restaurants during our stay and found the food was good throughout and very reasonably priced. The beach hmmm not a lot of sand but what is there is rock hard and full of sunbeds (not for us). A visit to the castle is a good way to spend a couple hours strolling inside and investigating all the tunnels and passages and all for €3. Would definitely recommend getting a car as there is not a lot to do in Methoni, we rented for 4 days from Finikounda Car Rental, their flyers are at the hotel €50 a day delivered and collected from the hotel. Travelled to Polilimnio Waterfalls, great day out, but be warned if you’re not the fittest it’s a trek, but oh so worth it. We drove up the coast to kaprissia stopping at Gialovia Lagoon really quiet areas, stunning beach and beautiful views and lovely for swimming. Voidikilla Lagoon was nice but very crowded. Pylos nice stop for food and walk around. We also travelled the opposite direction travelling the coast to Kalamata stopping at Finikound, Korni, Petalidi and several little beaches along the way. Polite and helpful staff always chatty and a smile, the rooms are cleaned everyday and bedding, towels changed regularly. The cleaner works really hard. Would I recommend the Achilles Hill Hotel 🤔 100% Yes
