Hotel Riviera - Adults only

We had an awesome time!! Jorge and Francisca at the Hideaway reception bar were awesome !!! And Ana was a great concierge the entire staff was so hospitable and friendly. The food was amazing. The drinks were amazing and the views were absolutely breathtaking. We will definitely .be back !!!

The property looks very nice with beautiful palm trees, flower gardens and modern buildings. Unfortunately, it is understaffed and is suited to people who want to go on vacation solely to party. The pool area and hot tubs are dirty, the loungers were stained and there isn't anywhere that you can go to read a book. Even the quiet area of the adult pool had several people who were playing their own music through speakers. There is a sign saying that this is not allowed but it is not enforced. When we arrived, our room was not ready. It took 4-5 hours to get it ready even though we arrived a day late. We had booked in the Hideaway section because my friend and I wanted to go to a quiet place to relax. When we booked two months earlier, we had requested two beds. The room we were given had one bed and faced a marsh with a children's waterpark. When we requested a room with two beds and preferably a view that would be more suited to an adult-only booking, we were told that we needed to pay an upgrade of $240 US dollars. Although we were not pleased, we paid this amount. The new room was facing the Hideaway pool which was noisy from mid-day until late into the night. I was told that I would be receiving a $40.00 credit for the upgrade with my hotel voucher and I still have not received it. Throughout the week, whenever we requested anything, it was either ignored or was not at all what we asked for. I called and asked for tea and was sent a cheese plate. I went to guest services and asked for tea again and was sent a completely different kind. Ironically, the first room had several kinds of tea and coffee but I left them there thinking that it would be in the new room. We arrived shortly after Hurricane Beryl. The beach was not in good shape after the storm. There was Sargassum in the water and on the beach. The resort sent two guys with garden tools to clean it up. When it clearly needed a crew and a tractor or power equipment. We weren't able to swim or spend time at the beach for the entire week.

2nd time at the Hideaway. I had used the room selector to pick a swimout room in building 3, but the Hideaway-facing side of building 3 was closed for renovation while we were there. I was refunded the room selector fee at checkout and we were given the same room type in building 2. We loved our room and spent every day until 1:30, when the sun went away in our swimout pool. The pool wait staff gladly refilled our 32oz YETI cups from the swimout. Our room had been recently renovated and was like a room in a new hotel. Our room was cleaned and mini-bar restocked every day without having to ask housekeeping. Just put the "needs service" door hanger out, and they'll show up. At the Hideaway pool, there was a daily grill with hamburgers, hotdogs, etc set up for easy, quick lunch. In addition, on certain days, they made guac, ceviche, and taquitos. We tried the breakfast at Dorado and it was lovely with great service. We went right at 7:00 when they open. Other mornings, we just had coffee and pastries from the coffee shop- both really good. All of the dinner restaurants were good. We were not diamond club and could not make reservations, but our longest wait for a table was 45 min. Not a problem, just go to the lobby bar and have a drink in the AC. Yes, the buffet has a sewer smell, the same sewer smell it had in 2015, the first time we went, but the food is decent, especially if you get something cooked up at a station. The only bad food was room service. We tried 7 different items and they were all trash. I only spent time on the beach to watch sunrise and go on morning beach walks, the shallow sea water is warmer than the pools, a little deeper, it's perfectly refreshing. The seaweed was present, but not a big issue. The vibe at the hideaway pool completely depends on the group of guests who happen to be staying at any given time. Some nights, it was crazy, screaming party until 7:30, other nights it was completely calm and quiet at 6:00. We ate dinner on the late side, so we didn't see much of the nightly entertainment, but it seems typical for a Cancun all-inclusive. Check in and Check out went smoothly and took about 15 min each. Due to the price, service, quality and proximity to the airport, this is one of the best values in Cancun.
