Tuzigoot National Monument

Water flows under and through this landscape, feeding the growth of people and towns. The Verde Valley is watered by snow melt, summer monsoons, and springs that well up from the ancient sedimentary rocks. In the heart of the valley, a thousand years ago, people began to build a little hilltop pueblo that would grow into one of the largest villages in the area.

Learn more about the city of Jerome's extensive history and mining operation at Jerome State Historic Park. Douglas' grandfather began the family's involvement in copper mining in Canada. As an engineer and scientist, his father, James, traveled all over the world. Son James Stuart took to mining with gusto. It was in Nacozari, Mexico, that he acquired his nickname ("Rawhide") inspired by use of rawhide to reduce roller wear on a cable car incline.

Super interesting tour and our guide was great! We saw old brothels and the jail and lots of other sites. You get to use the equipment to listen for paranormal activity while your on the tour. They even let us rent the equipment for the night as we were staying at the haunted grand hotel!

The tour was excellent. The tour guide was a local lady, Amanda, and she was great and lots of fun. Her knowledge of Jerome was very good. I would highly recommend this tour.

Overall the tour was really great, our tour guide was really knowledgeable of all the history in this little town. They were able to answer all of our questions. I definitely recommend if you go to this town to get a tour guide. History in this town is amazing, and our guide was absolutely wonderful. Although I can’t remember my tour guides name, however he was amazing. I will post a picture.

Well... Jerome is an "interesting" town. It is and has been sitting on a large copper ore deposit. The history of the town rivals that of other more famous locations like Tombstone and Dodge City. the fact that entire town is built on a hillside made getting around awkward, but the tour was in a van and we stopped at various flat places (although there weren't many). Most people seem to opt for the "Ghost tour" since that appears to be more in tune with the haunted identity the town has. This tour is for those that really "get into" the history of the region from its beginning in the mid 1800's up to date. If you just want to get a view of the town, try to find a parking place and walk around... up and down and up and down and up and down. It is totally a tourist destination now.

We had the best time, with tour guide Levi. He was so animated, well informed and eager to provide us with such interesting historical facts....would highly recommend this tour.

Brett was our tour guide and went out of his way to make the tour fun and informative. He provided lots of historical facts and answered questions like a pro. Although we didn't have a lot of ghost activity we would still do this again.

A lot of interesting history to this little town. We learned a lot about this small unheard of town. It was much easier to enjoy the area with someone else doing the driving and telling you the highlights & history. We had no idea. Thank you Levi. We had a great time.

We have been to Jerome several times before. Doing this tour really helped us appreciate Jerome at the next level. We got a tailored tour to make sure my 10 years old son stayed interested and had fun at the same time. We have hybrid tour between town history and ghost hunting adventure. Levi was great and very patient!

We did the historic shuttle tour of Jerome. Our tour guide was Brett and he was very knowledgeable and informative. We were the only 2 on the tour and he geared it to our interests. Was well worth the money at a 50% discount! It was a very interesting tour of this historical mining town.
