We booked on Viator, which Tripadvisor owns, expecting good tour. The pick up spot was in a dingy part of town, in the dark and no where to stand and it was pouring rain. The van arrived on time with Chinese writing on the side of the van. It turns out it was a Chinese touring company that was contractec out by Viator. Before getting into the van we asked if this was Viator. The driver/guide said he did not know what Viator was, but our names were on the list. We hisitantly got into the van with two other people. For the next 60 minutes the driver did not say one single word about where we were going or if we were picking up other people. We stopped at a hotel to pick up other people, all Chinese speakers. I asked if this tour was in Chinese. I asked if there would be a commentary and the driver/guide did not know what a commentary was. I asked if he was simply driving us there or was this a tour...no response. We finally chose not to continue the tour since it was clearly a Chinese touring company geared for Chinese speaking people. Customer Service for both Viator and Tripadvisor are the same and absolutely dismal. My only hope in getting refund was to call my own credit card company and contest the charge. The customer service people were in India, the Philippines...etc. You could tell they were reading from a form in front of them. Why Viator would contract out in this way still baffles me. I have had good luck with Viator in Europe but I will certainly probably not ever use them again given what happened and given their extremely poor customer service. Jim and Pat

My husband and I arrived at our pick up spot only to discover we had been placed with a Chinese tour company that would be giving the tour in Chinese. The tour guide/ driver told us he could do it in English also, but he did not have the English skills necessary to do that. Why Viator would place us on that tour, I don’t know. The tour company didn’t even know who Viator was. I can only assume Viator contracted out to this company. We did not end up taking the tour.

The tour packs a lot of locations in a short 11 hour window so it is good from the perspective of all of the many sites you get to see and visit. My only complaint is that the Driver was just a Driver, he was not in any measurable way a Tour Guide. He couldn't answer questions and he didn't tell us anything about Joshua Tree or the Richard Nixon Library. He just dropped us off at each location we visited and said "Be back in 30 minutes". He did not accompany us and tell us about the location and its history or any interesting facts about the location. At one location we tagged along with another tour group and eavesdropped on what their Tour Guide had to say and he was amazing and interesting. To be fair, our Driver took us to a lot of sites that were great locations, but be warned you will not get any insight about the locations from your Driver.

The tour was well-organized and there was generally enough time to stop by each attraction. Our tour guide Seal even went the extra mile to take gorgeous photographs for us, capturing fond memories of this trip. I recommend this day tour to anyone staying in LA for a day or two.

My tour guide Evan was awesome. Joshua Tree was beautiful and the library ended up being a pleasant surprise.
