I think I would have liked this sprawling, disorganized museum complex more if the collections were better organized and had better wayfinding signage. It was really annoying to repeatedly go from one floor to another and then discover that the reason why the exhibits on the next floor were so confusing was because I was walking through them in the wrong sequence. There needs to be a map or signage showing a recommended path with the correct sequence for walking through the exhibits in chronological or logical order. To be fair, most of the exhibits on Hawaii's history were quite good, especially the exhibits covering the history of the Hawaiian Kingdom and its subsequent takeover by the United States. I felt that the relatively small art exhibitions were more annoying than interesting. This place is a textbook example of why many large cities try to establish entirely separate art museums and avoid mixing natural history, human history, science, and art in the same multipurpose museum complex! In theory it sounds nice to be able to see so many different things at once in one place, but in reality such museums tend to be confusing and unfocused.

I would highly recommend this museum because it contains so many artifacts and history about the past Hawaiin leaders and their beautiful culture.

It was 40 mins bus ride from Waikiki to get to the museum. When we got there the staff were very friendly and we loved our time here. A lot to see and do here.

The Bishop Museum is dedicated to Hawaiian culture and history. The main building is three stories and although there are a number of things to see, I found the museum a bit underwhelming for the cost of admission. I'm not sure if it's the presentation, but it's a bit dark in the building and the presentation of the exhibits was not that interesting. I learned new things about the Hawaiian culture, but in hindsight, I would not pay $30+ to visit the museum; I left after about an hour. I've been to many museums in the past 8 months, including the Louvre. The latter costs $24 (less than the Bishop Museum) and you can easily spend 5 to 8 hours in that museum.

There really wasn’t anything memorable about this experience. Some of the exhibits were closed and the others weren’t very interesting.

If you have kids go to the Poly nesian Cultural Center instead. My 10 and 13 year old boys did not last long at Bishops museum.. The history is great for adults who want to walk around and read a lot. We spent 3 days at the polynesian cultural center and my boys never got tired of it. Its a more interactive, immersive experience.

We joined the free 'tour’ that goes over one room and the main gallery at the historical brick building. The guide told us how to best enjoy the museum and to use our time. It was wonderful. It is such a treasurer that helps you to understand the vast history of the Hawaiian people. Go do this for your family. Other building there that we didn’t have time to see but we did find the Planetarium educational on how the First People got to the Islands. Not for little ones they get bored. You pay for the parking from a vending machine out front. There are many discounts offered for military and other qualified persons. You buy your Planetarium $3.00 ticket there. Lovely gift shop with fair prices on Hawaiian Made items. We spent about 4 hours but took our time and throughly enjoyed. Go!!

This museum has a LOT to see about Hawaii's history through artifacts, but also some art and natural history exhibits too. There's something for everybody here. Be sure to allot 2-3 hours of your day to see everything. The ticket price is a little steep so you want to get your money's worth.

It was a fantastic place. Had to cut short and I had to leave early. Worth every penny. It is a wonderful insight to hawisn culture. I would recommend for everyone.

Loved it all. Especially the feathered Kahili room, and the sweet story of stone Kaneikokokala now 'staying warm'. He seems very happy.
