The Vessel - Charles Darwin The ‘Charles Darwin’ is a steel-hulled tri-level catamaran originally named Shangri-La Princess. Built in Adelaide in 1990 for the Stannard family, a well-known name in the boating industry. ‘Charles Darwin’ was built for use on the Gold Coast “Broadwater” taking passengers from Surfer’s Paradise to the Shangri-La resort on Stradbroke Island. After many years’ service, two further owners and two name changes, she became part of Darwin Harbour Cruises family in April 2010. After extensive re-build and refurbishment in Brisbane, she sailed for Darwin as the ‘Charles Darwin’ in August 2010.

Great way to see a beautiful sunset over the harbour. Staff were friendly, efficient and the food was wonderful It was also great to learn about the history of wwll Japanese bombing and Cyclone Tracey. We also saw the rather large war ship at the dock and the harbour looked magnificent lit up from the water.

It was lovely food, the oysters and prawns were to die for. Sunset was beautiful and great company. Had a very enjoyable night. We got to meet some lovely people. Would highly recommend.

Nice food. Great sunset. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The wines were OK. Selection of beers very good. Plenty of room to move around. Crumble for deserts was lovely.

So peaceful and the crew and commentary was great. Some people were very noisy and disrespectful to others that wanted to listen to the commentary. Otherwise excellent

Well run and efficient entry. Staff were lovely, drink prices acceptable. Just not sure if it’s worth the money. Oysters lovely but they ran out, prawns were smallish and a bit tasteless, barramundi was amazing. Salad average. Not a great variety of desserts . Think you are paying a lot for the boat trip which is fine. When you book you can’t choose seating so experience can be very indoors but can go outside for sunset photos. It was a pleasant experience and can tick that box as done.

Thoroughly enjoyed it but it would have been nice to have a commentary on what is around the harbour as we passed. All we had were two recorded commentaries about the attack on Darwin during the war and Cyclone Tracey no mention of the places we were sailing past.

Booked this cruise as part of our stay in Darwin. Easy to find the wharf, easy to get on the boat. We were treated beautifully the whole time by all the staff. The food was amazing and there was loads of it. The sunset was so unique and I highly recommend this experience.

Directions to pick up point were very poor and to the wrong point. The hot food was just warm and we were first up. It would have been good to get more information of points of interest on the cruise. Overall the cruise was ok.

We parked on The Stokes Hill Wharf and boarded the dinner cruise boat just before 6:00 PM. It was a warm night but a little cloudy. We got a table inside by the front windows. There was a bar so we got glasses of wine and enjoyed the scenery before the buffet dinner was served. The food was good and included oysters and shrimp and ice cream for desert. The boat circled the harbor and returned to the wharf around 9:00 PM.
