Kula

(Pass by)

Maui’s rich farming and ranching history is still evident by the vast pastures that line the side of the mountain. Kula’s cool weather and rich volcanic soil make the area an ideal spot for a number of Lavender, Protea, and Macadamia Nut farms.

Makawao

The Hawaiian Cowboys or Paniolos have roots set deep in the town of Makawao. This small town still has hitching rails at storefronts just as the locals once used to tie up their horses.

Paia

Today Pa’ia is a popular surf destination, however, Pa’ia’s history is as intriguing as it is fascinating. Learn about how the Sugar Plantations shaped this town and the culture of the island, and how this small north shore town was once a gathering place for entertainment and fun.

We enjoyed the sunrise tour with ecotours. They provided pickup at our hotel, warm jacket to cut the wind, and breakfast in paia after the tour. We also really enjoyed the fellowship of the other travelers on our bus. If you don't want to drive yourself or can't get individual ticket reservations for sunrise, a tour is the way to go. However, if I went again, I would drive myself. I would have liked to have more time on Haleakala after the sun rise and would have liked to go to the summit to get pictures of the observatories. We would have made different stops on the way down and could have done Paia on our own.

Aloha, We had a wonderful time in our Haleakala tour with our guide, Michael. He was friendly, informative and gracious. He was so kind and offered to take photos of us at each stop. He told us wonderful stories of the island folklore and it’s history. One of the best things was he led us in a greeting to the Menehune . It was a terrific tour. I highly recommend it. Mahalo! Michael was a knowledgeable guide and provided a unique experience throughout the day. The views at the summit were breathtaking, lunch in Paia was tasty and the venue had a great local vibe! The tour operator was accommodating and we were so grateful (it was our error!) Highly recommend! Mahalo!

We (4 adults) booked the Classic Daytime Hakeakala tour several weeks in advance. About 15 hours before the start of the tour we received a call indicating that the tour was cancelled, then an hour later we were contacted informing us that they worked out their problem and the tour would go as scheduled. We truly appreciated the pick-up and drop-off at our Lahaina resort. The four of us were combined with a bike group so some of our tour time was spent listening to their instructions and safety review. We all went to the crater summit together, absolutely beautiful, however, in order to get the bike riders to their starting point on time we did not have enough time to go into the Visitors Center to learn more about Hakeakala. After the bikers were dropped off we thought we would be stopping in some of the towns we were passing through - especially Paia, but we made only one stop in Makawao, returning back to our resort much earlier than we had expected based on the listed tour duration. While we were pleased with what we were able to see, we felt we did not get the full Classic tour. Our guide, Dan, was very knowledgable about the geography, culture, myths/stories of Hawaii, geology, plant life and origins of the areas through which we passed.

My favorite part was the journey to the destinations itself! From our perky pick up guy Cory, to the tale tellin jokster Eddy, to our ride guides Billy and Dean...and Billy's Oli (chant) at sunrise...they made the trip worth the money!! I am glad we did this early in the trip because this started our whole vacattion off to a great start. This team was the best, hands down, funniest and friendliness time I had on any tour!! They made the rest of the trip even better with all their recommendtions on local food, what apps to use, where to surf and park, what was worth your time and see.. the real deal. Listen to the locals and not Yelp thi time!! Your safety was their biggest concern! I highly recommend this group!! You feel like Ohana after the day ends! They totally take care of you!! Oh and when locals say don't do something.....don't!

Great communication on this tour starting with Cory, who picked me up from my hotel at 3:00 am, to Billy, our guide for the ride up to the crater and beyond. Billy is a wealth of knowledge, super nice and funny. Also, I loved how he stressed safety on the tour. Incredible views, a beautiful morning song by our guides at the top and a great tour of a lot of the island after descending. Thank you so much for a wonderful morning!

We had a great trip and they well organized. We felt safe riding on the road. Tour was very informative. Highly recommend.

I would have appreciated to know that I was the only one not doing the bike tour. So I was with a guide tour interesting only by giving tips to the riders... I feel so alone... I paid 150 dollars for going up, late (all the places had had already taken by the others agencies) and go down with just one stop at the kula lodge for breakfast (30 dollars more). That's all! For this price, the others agencies give the breakfast for free. My friend did it with Skyline and he really enjoyed his tour. Not me. Even if the guide was friendly and nice.

We were almost left at the resort at 2am due to an error on the company’s part. They had a different name with our contact information, and initially the driver told us we weren’t going on their tour. We insisted we had a confirmation with their company but he said no, it would be another pickup. Thankfully the driver called our phone number before leaving. After making more stops for pickups, we spent a lot of down time wasted in my opinion. We didn’t do the bike tour but we waited about an hour at the shop for those to get their gear. I will give them credit for providing pants and jackets for the cold, but this process was over an hour. On the ride down in the shuttle the lavender field was closed (not their fault but it was still disappointing) so we stopped for 1 photo, then we were dropped at Paia at 9am to wait for the bikers for an hour and a half. Then a couple on our shuttle back to the hotel got lost and we waited even longer for them. Our guide was very friendly and informative. They made the drawn out day more tolerable, but in my opinion, this was a waste of time and money. I wish we’d been able to get a vehicle pass and go on our own to watch the sunset. It was definitely overpriced and entirely too long for a simple ride up and down. They should do a separate, cheaper trip for people not biking back down.
