Your Itinerary

Smith Street

We spend the first part of the tour along one of the most exciting restaurant districts of Brooklyn. Wandering up and down Smith Street in Carroll Gardens, we stop into many of the local mom and pop businesses including a renowned baker, an impressive cheese shop, and an adorable little cookie bakery.

Carroll Gardens

As we stroll through this picturesque neighborhood we learn how it got its name, about its history as an Italian and Irish immigrant neighborhood, and how the waterfront helped transform it. We meet residents and shop owners and taste some great pastries, house roasted coffee, and visit an old-school soda fountain.

61 Bergen St

We pop into this neighborhood public house for a locally made drink (beer, soda, or kombucha) and some bar snacks. We also learn about how this bar/restaurant is more a place for locals to come together and support the local economy.

Cobble Hill

This historic district features some of the most beautiful brownstones in all of Brooklyn. Feel like a local as we wander through the residential streets and beautiful parks. Admire the architecture and visit many of the mom and pop businesses in the neighborhood.

Brooklyn Heights

We just touch on the southern end of this historic neighborhood by walking down the main commercial street of Atlantic Avenue. Here we get a sense of how locals shop by visiting one of the legendary Middle Eastern bakeries.

Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain

We end our tour at one of the cutest businesses in the neighborhood, and a place where you find kids indulging in an ice cream sundae and grandparents enjoying a good old fashioned ice cream float. This revived soda fountain brings the old world and the new world together with modern twist on New York classics. And you need to hear the story about how they first began.

Mickey's tour was thoroughly entertaining, educational and very delicious. We experienced a wide variety of specialty foods along an interesting walking route. Mickey recounted many great stories along the way. The tour was well-paced and truly a terrific way to spend an afternoon!

This was the only reasonably-reviewed tour of Brooklyn that suited my schedule and that I was able to find before leaving my country. It turned out to be fun. It was a hot day, but our guide made sure everyone got to stand in the shade while not getting in the way, providing enough time to sit. She spoke slowly. She often provided an extra portion of food (to which we mostly declined in order to save space for our stomachs). She made sure we knew where the restrooms are and where we could get free drinking water. Being sort of a senior person myself, I was afraid that the food may be too heavy, but it turned out to be a nice balance of light snacks often with a sour taste and the sweets were sophisticated. Our guide had an interesting habit of getting the 2nd digit of 4-digit years wrong, so some of the historical events she explained was exactly a century incorrect. But I soon caught that habit and was able to look it up myself later to find out facts. Since her 4th digit was always correct, it was easy to learn from her many hints. Perhaps there were places/food/drinks she skipped and questions she couldn't answer properly, but her storytelling was magnificent, and our group became a friendly bunch creating a pleasant atmosphere. The one thing I feel can be easily improved is the meeting spot. Although the address is clearly stated, no landmark was informed to us in advance, and it's not that there is a sign for the tour. (As our guide explained as part of the tour, it was a new shop that opened after the pandemic, and Google Street View showed nothing.) Upon arrival, I asked a boy standing next door to the address, and as he went back and forth trying to help me, it took some time until I asked a group of people if they happened to be the tour. This could be prevented if the guide held up a small card, or if our last-minute voucher showed the name of the shop. Overall, it was a great way to spend lunch time tasting bits and pieces of a variety of local food while consuming it through a walk in ordinary residential places, learning cultures and history old and new.

Our Tour Guide, James Scully, was excellent! His knowledge & passion for the history & culture of Brooklyn was spot on and it was clear that his historical studies and active interest in creating stories, podcasts etc made him an ideal guide. Very personable and interested. We visited Brooklyn food outlets that had history & made their own ingredients & learned about the history of the area. Next time, I would stay in Brooklyn. I highly recommend this tour!

Our guide Brian met us on time and showed us around the Brooklyn neighbourhoods as advertised in the Get your Guide Tour. He was friendly, knowledgeable, generous and engaging. He had great relationships with the business proprietors we visited who were in turn friendly and generous with their time. We tasted the best salmon and cream cheese bagels ever, beautiful chocolates, excellent artisan bread and pastries as well as coal oven pizza and more. Bryan gave is an insight to the community and we felt a part of it for the three hours of the tour. Which I have to say passed too quickly. Thanks Brian!

We had a great time with Mickey during our walking and eating tour of Brooklyn! It was fun to stroll through the various neighborhoods and learn the history of how they have changed or stayed the same over the years, and taste a variety of yummy bites from the curated local shops, delis and restaurants. We have done a number of Manhattan-based food/walking tours, so it was a treat to break out and learn about another borough all while filling our bellies! Mickey had a lot of great stories to share which made the history of Brooklyn come alive, and we visited places that our kids who live in the city never knew about! We'd definitely recommend this tour!

Micaela was a perfect guide! She is extremely knowledgeable about the history and delicious spots to go to in the area. She also gave us advice about how to get more involved in the local community, as we are new residents of the area. We couldn’t recommend this tour and Micaela highly enough!!

This was a great experience that was worth every penny. We walked around Brooklyn and tried many different local foods while our tour guide gave us a great overview of the history of Brooklyn and its own cultural evolution. Highly recommend checking it out!

The Brooklyn food tour went beyond the food with a the history and current state of Brooklyn. Mickey was our guide and she provided detail on each food stop with information about the proprietors and the history. The food was great and just the right amount. Mickey is a guide with humility and really made the experience about us.
