Adrift Adventures

The tour itself begins in Moab where you’ll meet your professional guide, and receive an intro safety briefing to be fit with lifejacket and gear. From here, hop in the van to the ride to the put-in on a scenic section of the river, where your guide will offer additional instruction about riding inside of the raft.  Once you’re ready, push off from the sandy bank and prepare to splash through the canyon.

Westwater Canyon

On this adventurous whitewater rafting trip, there’s the chance you could see petroglyphs carved in the rocks from the area’s original inhabitants, or old mining cabins, graves, and caves that date to the old Wild West. As you pass an old-growth Cottonwood tree, look up towards the sky to look for bald eagles and they soar and coast on the breeze, and keep an eye out for otters and beavers as they splash and swim in the eddies. You’ll splash through 12 different Class III and IV rapids. Your guide will be rowing the raft with oars, so you can just hang on for the ride, absorbing the desert scenery as you splash your way down the canyon. In the middle of the day, your guide will paddle to a sandy riverbank in a calmer section of water, where you’ll enjoy a filling buffet lunch and can take a refreshing dip. From here, continue splashing your way downstream and listening to your echoes in the canyon, before leaving the Colorado River behind for the comfortable drive back to Moab.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 1/2 day white water rafting trip with Louis as our very knowledge, capable and entertaining guide. We highly recommend Mild to Wild!

Andy P said it best. Our humble and wise captain Claire exceeded all expectations as we battled the mighty Colorado River. Aye aye captain.

Andy P above took the words from my mouth. I second what he said, Claire was an amazing guide!! She enabled us to have so much fun on the river!

Hark, gentle folk and noble travelers! Attend ye to my tale of valor and merriment upon the rushing waters, under the esteemed guidance of Adrift Adventures and the virtuous guide, Claire. Upon the dawning of a recent day, I did embark upon a most exhilarating journey, wherein the foaming river did serve as our steed. Adrift Adventures, with its renown for splendiferous excursions, did prove to be a beacon of trust and expertise. The sturdy vessel, craft’d with great care, did bear us safely through torrents and eddies, a testament to the fine craftsmanship and careful attention provided by this esteemed company. But let me extol the virtues of our noble guide, Claire. With a countenance as bright as the morning sun and a spirit of unwavering resolve, she did steer us through perilous waters with the skill of a seasoned mariner. Her commands, both clear and wise, did instill confidence and courage in the hearts of all who embarked upon this voyage. Claire's knowledge of the river, its whims and fancies, did appear boundless, as though she were in league with the very spirits of the waters. In moments where the river raged and roared like a lioness, Claire's steadiness did quell our fears. With a voice as calm as a summer’s breeze, she imparted both safety and delight, transforming treacherous passages into thrilling conquests. At intervals of respite, she regaled us with tales and lore, enriching our journey with the charm of her wit and wisdom. Thus, I do declare, with a heart full of gratitude and a spirit uplifted, that Adrift Adventures and the illustrious guide Claire provide an experience most extraordinary. Should ye seek a journey of both thrill and joy upon the waterways, look no further than this noble enterprise. Verily, thou shalt not be disappointed. So ends my account, in humble reverence to the joy and adventure that did befall us. Adrift Adventures and the fair Claire, I salute thee!

More than worth it, shout-out Tim Hyland our raft guide for providing the best experience and insights on all the geology along the river.

The best adventure ever. The kids loved it and the guide was a supreme stand up guy. The guide had the same humor as a Scandinavian and was pretty good saying “rød grød med fløde” (danish). I would recommend adrift any time and if you want to have fun at the same time remember to ask for Jacob for your guide. He is a outstanding young guy. He made us laugh the whole trip. Best regards From Denmark

Ben! What a story teller. A great day on the river. A little windy and he powered through it. Very knowledgeable and experienced guide. Rapids were big and sooo fun.

I've been going on Westwater trips almost every year for over 20 years for friends and co-workers. Myke Hghes runs a first rate top notch adventure company. This year, with the Colorado River running at around 11,000 cubic feet per second resulted in fast water and big rapids. Our boatman, Ethan, was exceptionally skilled (he rowed us through Skull Rapid with ease - a perfect run!) and had an encyclopedic knowledge of boats, the river, the geology, and the history. It was a pleasure to see him again (he was our boatman from last year). I will continue to choose Adrift for rafting Westwater to get my whitewater fix and tointroduce my friends and colleagues to advetnuring Moab syle.

Why no women guides? Ethan was so knowledgeable/experienced. Felt secure with him as our guide. Why no women oarsmen?
