Please note that our tours cannot accommodate children under 3 years old or pregnant women. The total duration of the tour is 120 to 180 minutes, ensuring ample time to witness an extraordinary range of marine life. Convenient parking areas are available at the Waterfront Lot on Washington Street and the Heritage Harbor Parking Garage on Pacific Street. Competent crew took an hour to motor out to a certain area and promptly spotted a couple of hump back whales working their way along the surface, coming up for air every 30 or 45 seconds. The crew was able to gently maneuver within perhaps 60 or 70 feet to the whales as they surfaced. Knowledgable guide provided some commentary. The encounter with the whales lasted for 25 or 30 minutes. Then an hour to return to shore. A more engaged guide offering more info on whales, and the species we viewed would have been helpful. It felt like the guide could have put forth more effort, even if it was reading from a script with back ground information.

Torturous whale watching with Princess Monterey whale watching tour. The company advertises that it is has the most stable and biggest boat for whale watching in Monterey, ideal for people who may get sea sick. During our tour on 6/2/2024 in morning the water was choppy from the start. The boat was rocking and rolling like crazy. Almost everyone in the boat was sea sick and started vomiting after leaving the harbor. The crew knew that the water was choppy but they still continued. They should have canceled the trip. After 1 hr, we barely saw some whales. Everyone in the boat was waiting for the ordeal to end. I did not see even one happy face at the end of the tour or people saying what a great experience they had. The only reason for choosing Princess whale watching vs others (who had better reviews) was their advertisement of most stable boat in Monterey for people who may get sea sick. I would never choose them again.

Of course it's kind of hit or miss. We went out in a dreary chilly day in late May. First place they looked - no whales. So we went out a pretty long way and finally saw about three whales, and we were not close enough to get great views. That's probably the right practice anyhow, to avoid endangering the whales. The staff seem to know their stuff. Just know that the experience (number of whales encountered, how close you get) and weather (marine layer lifts or not, how rough the seas are) will vary a lot from day to day, and not all the variances are that predictable. Be wise and layer your clothing with some warm layers. We did and were very glad of it.

This was an amazing experience. My husband and I went for our 1 year anniversary. The boat ride was amazing, got to see a couple humpback whales searching for food.

It was obvious the guide and crew enjoyed their jobs,. We saw several flips and waterspouts! One of our group got nauseous and the crew was very helpful.

Exceeded expectations, we got to see four different kinds of whales and a rare fish. Guide was super knowledgable and asked if we had any questions at the end.

The weather was rough, but the activity was great. The sea lion rafts were awesome and we got to see some parts of the whales, and the time we had was pretty good. Wish there were more front spaces, it was rough enough that you couldn't really crowd there. The crew was awesome and the ship was well maintained.

We saw almost a dozen whales. Guide was very knowledgeable. We will go again sometime! Be wary that some people were getting seasick, I recommend you stay outside up front a little.

It was a dull morning sadly, but the trip was excellent with a very well informed commentary. Saw Humpbacks, dolphins, sea lions, shearwater, pelicans & albatross. Well worth the money!
