Jackson Square

This authentic mode of transportation will help you time-travel back to the 1700s and 1800s when death and disease were rampant due to devastating fires, floods, murders, and more! Being that there are only 8-passengers on-board the carriage, the mule-drawn adventure is more intimate and unforgettable. The carriage-driving tour guides are top-rated licensed guides who have been sending chills down spines for over 75 years. Meet and board at the carriage stand located at 700 Decatur Street. As your carriage departs from Jackson Square, your driver/guide will regale you with stories of the city's founding as the carriage passes through the historic French Quarter street.

French Quarter

Travel past landmarks such as Saint Louis Cathedral, Jackson Square, Napoleon House, and more as the carriage wind through New Orleans' oldest neighborhood, the French Quarter. Expect stories that are both historical, entertaining and appropriate for all visitors. It's important to understand the history so that you can understand the spirits that haunt the buildings. New Orleans is considered to be the most haunted city in America. Countless tragedies have happened right in the French Quarter, including devastating floods and fires killing thousands, contagious epidemics resulting in thousands of deaths, and other odd occurrences like weird human torture experiments, medical experiments, love lost, and more. These stories have been documented in police records and history books, and some can be quite alarming! You'll learn about the stories, then about how the "spirits" are letting people know that they are still very present! Do you have goosebumps yet?

Our guide Matt was entertaining and knew so much history and NO. He really made it fun. Our mule Armstrong knew the route by heart and gave a smooth ride.

Luke was very well informed not only on the haunted tales, but also other stories of the city, Jasmine, jazz, various trees, and customs. He pointed out some musicians and artists and told us their story. Well, he told us a story- whether it was theirs we’ll never know. He was delightful. We also witnessed a small informal parade.

Very interesting tour. Learned a lot of New Orleans history and that quite some buildings here are haunted.

I would like to review it however as we got caught up in grid locked traffic we were a few minutes late and the tour had to go without us. While I do understand timing and needing to keep on schedule, we asked the staff there at the pick up location if we could be put on any other tour that evening. We were met with a gruff NO. We then the next day called Royal Carriages directly. There were spots open for another day. I asked if we could be switched to anything they had open again it was NO. I offered to pay a little more if that would help, as long as we did not lose out on the whole thing, NOPE. Pay for a whole other tour. Again I understand business needs and we were not expecting or asking for a refund, but at least try to help accommodate if possible, or at least work with people. Things happen that are out of people's control.

Really a 4.5 if I could. The ride was enjoyable, Josie our mule gave us a good ride comfortable carriage. Shannon our guide was entertaining and informative with stories of New Orleans. We however no fault of the tour, had to be dropped off, in Marigny, there was a disturbance in Jackson square. Cops flying everywhere. This gave us an extra almost mile of walking. I understand the change of plans for our safety but alittle closer to the starting point would have been appreciated.

It was a wonderful tour. We had a 14 and 16 year old boy plus four adults and we all loved it. Stephanie was our guide and she was hilarious and informative. Ivan was our mule and a big part of the adventure! They treat the animals well. Definitely recommend!!! We had a carriage for just our family. We saw so much more than the walking tours, which were crowded, and people didn’t look very happy. This is definitely worth the extra money.
