Pompeii Archaeological Park

The ruins of Pompeii are a vast archaeological site in the southern Campania region, near the coast of the Gulf of Naples. Once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried under meters of ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The preserved site features remains of excavated streets and houses that visitors can freely explore.

Tempio di Giove Capitolino

The Temple of Jupiter dominates the northern side of the Forum, and Vesuvius rises spectacularly behind it. With the deduction of the colony (80 BC) the temple was the subject of a radical renovation and became a real Capitolium, with the three cult statues of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, which imitated those of the Capitolium in Rome, placed on a high base, so as to make them visible to those passing through the Forum square.

The baths that we can admire today were built in the 2nd century BC, a period in which Pompeii underwent a major building renovation. In the spa not only did people bathe, but they also discussed politics, battles, trials, women... it was the city living room where the events of the day were discussed.

We really enjoyed our trip to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. We have been wanting to go for awhile and it did not disappoint. The weather was perfect not too hot and not too cold. We had a bus driver take us to the different places and he was brilliant so carful when driving up the windy roads. The tour guide met us at Pompeii and gave us head phones and we were able to listen to everything she was saying throught Pompeii tour we skipped all the queues and there wasn’t any waiting around. They then took us to a vineyard to have lunch there was a 3 course meal and was very tasty and filling we were there 2hours tasting the vineyards local wines and it was a lovely experience. Lastly we went to Vesuvius where we had to hike up the volcano around 25mins walk and this was incredible. Never thought I would climb up an active volcano that distoyed Pompeii all those years ago. The views from the top were amazing and we were so glad we did it. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and take a jacket as it gets cold on the top.

What an amazing experience! The whole day was well organised and excellent value for money. Two hours in Pompei, just about the right amount of time, with a knowledgeable guide. Then a lovely lunch and wine tasting at a great restaurant that were very helpful for our Gluten Free needs. Off to Vesuvius for a 90 minute free-time trek up and down the volcano.. tiring but so rewarding. Finally a limoncello tasting that you will love. Highly recommended!

Great day, we were able to see a lot without feeling rushed. Had plenty of time in Pompeii to see a lot and the crowds weren’t too bad. Lunch was okay, not the best food, but good replenishment before the walk up Vesuvius. Had 90 minutes at Vesuvius, which was plenty of time.

Tour to Pompei and Vesuvius was very interesting. Climb to the top was very steep, but so pleased we made it as the views were fantastic. Only slight negative was the tour guide for Pompei had to do bilingual commentary which at times was distracting and confusing, not her fault, but would have been better if just a group in English.

We were picked up promptly at our allotted meeting point by the tour guide, Paola and our coach driver, Michele. Both were very friendly. Paola kept us updated on the plans for the day and gave us plenty of information about interesting things along our route to Pompeii including our lunch plqns. Michele’s driving was nice and smooth (that’s saying something on Italy’s crazy roads) and he helped us off the coach if necessary. We were handed over to a marvellous tour guide at Pompeii, whose name I can’t remember unfortunately but began with an M. She swapped seamlessly between English and Spanish without losing the attention of any of the group and was funny and interesting. Lunch at the vineyard on the slopes of Vesuvius was of a good quality and plenty. The walk up Vesuvius was difficult but worth it. A great day all round
