Your Itinerary

Phare de Biarritz

Biarritz is many things: Europe’s gateway to surfing in the mid-50s, a pioneer of beach tourism (they started promoting it 200 years ago!), and one of the most coveted places to see and be seen. We’ll walk along its promenade admiring the sea and its sumptuous hotels until we reach its 44-meter-high lighthouse.

Mercado Les Halles

We’ll visit the colorful market Les Halles to take the pulse of daily life and get in touch with the greatest that France has to offer: its cheeses, its charcuterie and its bakeries / patisseries. Bon Apetit!

Saint-Jean-de-Luz

Protected by a bay, Saint Jean de Luz is a peaceful summer fishing village where we we’ll visit the Maison Adam patisserie where, in 1660 (!) they created the famous ‘macaron’. At that same time, a certain Johannès de Suhigaraychipi, a French corsair who captured more than 100 British, Dutch and Spanish ships, was sailing through the area.

Corniche Basque

(Pass by)

They call it ‘La route de la Corniche’ and it is one (yet another!) of the most beautiful roads in the Basque Country. The section between Ciboure and Hendaye is only 8 kilometers long, but you’ll never want it to end. Well, actually, you will, because when it's over, it will mean that you've reached...

Hondarribia

The last (or first, depending on how you look at it) city on the Spanish coast is a privileged place with sea, river, bay, mountains, a fishing district at the forefront of world cuisine (says the New York Times!), and a walled medieval neighborhood (with streets not suitable for heels) at the top.

Jaizkibel

(Pass by)

There is no better way to get to San Sebastián than through the road that runs along the crest of Mount Jaizkibel, and from which you can see the Basque coast to Bizkaia.

We have been in Spain for a month. We have had many tour guides in several different cities. Mark was one of the best. His English was very good. His enthusiasm and knowledge were even better. He made it a really great and fun day for my wife and me. I would highly recommend him.

The Best Tour with our local guide Mikel. Absolutely a wonderful experience. Mikel took us to these special places we wouldn’t have found any other way, making this day one of our best in the whole trip. Not only the places he took us, but hearing the family stories and Basque background, helped us have a closer look and understanding of the Basque culture. Sincere thanks to Mikel, now our friend, for opening the wonderful Basque culture to us.

Highly recommend this tour of the French Basque Country! Martin showed us around San Juan de luz, sampling world class cheeses and wines from local shops. Next up was Biarritz and the picturesque promenade along the sea. After a stop at a local winery for a tasting, we made a visit to the beautiful village of Hondarribia. A trip not to be missed!

Great tour. A Comfortable, spacious, luxury van driven by a great, friendly, knowledgeable tour guide. We had Mattin, who wowed us with history of the area and of the Basque people while showing us gorgeous views and while walking us through highlights of the towns, including beautiful buildings, and spots to grab a bite to eat. He learns your style and works with it. Thank you, Mattin!

We have to give a five plus star review to Ikusnahi tours in San Sebastián for their great tour to Biarritz, Saint Jean de Luz and Hondarribia. A special shout out to Mark who was friendly and informative regarding all the sights and history of each area. He was very knowledgeable and funny and made our day. The company accommodated a last minute request and could not have been more accommodating.

We had a wonderful day with Mark as our tour guide! The private experience makes it so special. We visited south of France and saw the most beautiful views, beaches, history of the towns. There are lots of shops. We ate at a local restaurant known for the best seafood! Has their local wine. All and all a fantastic day trip! If you are staying in San Sebastián or near by for at least a few days worth the trip! Thank you Mark for making it a wonderful experience!

We had a wonderful day trip along the coast with many lovely stops and Ania as our guide. She was very knowledgeable and enjoyable as a guide, and flexible as well. She was very kind to follow up with information on some items we discussed throughout the day. We would highly recommend Ikusnahi Tours!

Our guide Markel for Basque Country was wonderful! We have had other guides in which it was a job for them. This was a trip we will never forget. We even have fotos with him as his presence was an integral to our experience. His knowledge of the history and the area, amazing foto and food stops and even his own story kept us fascinated and wanting to know more. We went across the Spanish border into France - I had no idea how gorgeous and long the coastline was! We loved Biarritz. (Ask him to show you the Madonna video). I could go on and on. Many Thanks Markel for a wonderful trip and memories!!

We had an exceptional day to the French Basque Country with Ania. The sights were very fun and interesting to see and Ania did a great job of sharing insights about the places, the culture and the History. She is incredibly knowledgeable and delivers her commentary with a very warm and welcoming style. Her recommendations for places to eat and stop for coffee were excellent. We had a fantastic lunch! Further, she went above and beyond offering dinner suggestions in San Sebastián independent of the tours. We all would highly recommend Ania for future tours.
