We loved this self guided tour. The audio portion was really fun. It brought the story of the property alive. The only glitch was that we bought the shuttle and audio tour but we didn’t get tickets ahead for the shuttle and had to pay twice. The person handing out the headsets said we didn’t get them but then relented. Other than these issues it was a fun place to slowly stroll through, take in the history and understand the turbulent times in which this house was created.

Beautiful Chateau with less people than Versailles. Make sure you spend all day there, take a picnic, or grab something to eat at either the Kiosk or the restaurant outside of the lunch rush. The bus from Melun is well worth it, though consider catching the 6pm bus home so you have more time in the garden - it’s huge, 3km! The audio tour was exceptional and for non French speakers a must.

Shuttle was no where to be found after arriving at the melun train station. Went to the pickup up point and waited, finally I asked a bus driver, and he said “it’s not running today due to Easter Monday”! We ended up taking an Uber! Would like to be refunded for the transportation portion, please! Palace was beautiful!

Interesting house tour. No crowds, on a day when Versailles was packed. Having golf carts for the huge gardens was fun for the kids.

The visit to the Chateau itself was excellent. There were no large crowds so we really got to enjoy the rooms more intimately. However, the restaurant is HORRIBLE. Le Relais de l’Écureuil served pitiful-looking food (fish & veggies) that was literally slopped on the plate. It reminded me of dorm food. It was inedible in my opinion, luckily I had a pack of biscuits in my bag which is what we ate instead. The pitiful-looking food wasn't cheap either. I paid 18 euros if I'm not mistaken. Advise: bring your own lunch!

I visited in the summer and really enjoyed the audio tour, which gave a great history lesson about the castle and also France. I stayed for the fireworks, and it was worth it. The chateau grounds itself is very big. I recommend taking a picnic blanket and a picnic, so you can stop & rest during the walk around the gardens. It is beautiful. I took the train + shuttle to the chateau and then took the bus that went directly from the chateau to one of the Gares in Paris. Because it was so late at night, it might have been the only public transportation option — and as it was convenient, I recommend that option. Exchanging the shuttle bus ticket with them was not a problem at all.

The chateaux can be reached by rail from Gare del’est. The Chateaubus meets the train at Vermeil L’Etang. The well-preserved rooms and the tremendous gardens are a site to see. Highly recommend a visit.

It was an interesting place, well worth the trip, with carriages the family used, lots of outbuilings we couldn't go into, and of course, in the winter, the famous gardens were bare, tho still well demarcated with hedges. I had a receipt on my phone to show to get in, but they wanted to charge me for the recording one takes to each station to hear the info in ones native tongue. I thought that was included, but I couldn't get internet there, hence the list of what was included. The lady called, and was told it wasn't included. It would be nice if that was listed on the receipt, or whatever it was on the phone that let them know I'd paid.

I think the Xmas decorations were a hindrance to really seeing the castle, and really weren't that spectacular. The trip, we were told, was about 4 and a half hours, but by the time you get to the train station, onto the shuttle, see the castle, etc, It's more like six.

I liked it.
Shirley

Very pretty castle, the audio guide tour is very very well done ✅. The restaurant is quite good and the restaurant prices remain good despite it being within the premises.

The headsets for the tour don't work very well. Obligation to change helmet 3 times. Young man for the cart rental very unpleasant, bordering on incorrectness. Magnificent setting which is spoiled by very average speakers.
