We were a group of friends staying in a local lodge. We originally booked for 10 people but on the day 20 decided to go , but John happily agreed to take us all , the largest group he has taken out. You meet in the high street and start with a tour around the town learning about its history and that of the local area . John is font of all knowledge and is very interesting and entertaining to listen to, and was happy to answer our endless questions. You then walk through the local community wood and learn the history of the Wade roads before walking back along the banks of the River Spey. We were very lucky as on our trip that we bumped into musician Hamish Napier who knew John and asked if we would like to hear him play, He kindly ran back to his house and picked up his flute to play a tune to us by the river , magical and a very special treat . The walk normally takes 2hrs and is all along flat ground , but we all did 10,000 steps though but because of all of our questions and our impromptu concert our walk took 3hrs but we loved it and at no point did John try and rush us. Its great value for money , and a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours and learn about the local area. Highly recommend

As future residents of Grantown, John gave as an excellent, informative and highly enjoyable tour of the town. We are now fully aware of the importance of the Grants, the Craigellachies and the Caulfeild Road in the location and construction of this historic town and have learned so much more besides about the culture and events which make Grantown such an interesting place to come and live. We will definitely be joining John again to discover more about the surrounding area in the months to come-thank you!

Chris took us on a tour of notable sites of the Grant clan including Grant castle as well as an afterhours tour of the Grantown Museum. Chris is very knowledgable and has a great sense of humour as well. Best part is he takes you in his van for the whole tour. Thanks Christopher for a very memorable experience. We really appreciate it and will definately recomend anyone heading in your direction. Justin & Cody

Lovely walk with John in and around Grantown through the woods to the River Spey. He has great local knowledge and has an obvious love for the area. I never thought such a small town has so much history. John also does tours of Cairngorms and whisky distilleries. You won't be disappointed.

The walk was part of the Highland Archaeology Festival and John Halliday imparted his excellent local knowledge and showed us hidden parts of the castle grounds. Despite the rain, John's enthusiasm made the walk thoroughly enjoyable. Without hesitation I can say it was a very enjoyable day. An excellent tour.

Ours was a short walking holiday based in Grantown-on-Spey which covered routes of five to eight miles extending to Nethy Bridge, Dufftown, Craigellachie, Aberlour and Spey Bay. This was arranged by Brightwater Holidays who had invited John Halliday of Strathspey Tours to guide us, apparently at short notice. Notwithstanding, John did a brilliant job, giving us the full benefit of his local knowledge and illustrating what we saw with fascinating and often amusing descriptions and stories from both the recent and more distant past. No matter what kind of the variable weather that September had to offer, we enjoyed every day and John ensured that we always found a comfortable coffee shop at the end of each. John is very patient and accommodating with a pleasant and relaxed manner, which made our outings all the more enjoyable. One of us, who in the event found difficulty in completing all the walks, is especially appreciative of the way he adjusted to us according to our abilities. We would highly recommend a tour with him in Speyside and surroundings, whatever your taste in the local attractions.

Just returned home from a four day walking holiday based in Grantown -on-Spey. John led us on three walks on the lovely Speyside Way. His enthusiasm and extensive knowledge of the area and it's history greatly added to my enjoyment of the walks. This was especially true on Sunday, when it rained for the entire walk ! At the end, we enjoyed a welcome cup of coffee and a cake in the cafe at Aberlour- -- -and the sun came out . We were mostly in the older age group and John was very patient and aware of our different abilities. I would certainly recommend him as a guide.
