Admission Not Included

Valle Del Bove

The first stop will be the viewpoint of the Valle del Bove, a large horseshoe-shaped volcano-tectonic depression located in the eastern sector of Etna, it is very important from a volcanological point of view as several outcrop along the walls. On fine days the view is breathtaking.

Crateri barbagallo

A very important stop is the Barbagallo crater at an altitude of about 3000 meters. Going up along the sandbanks, you will reach a lava flow channel dating back to the 2002 eruption. Going up the channel, you will arrive at the effusive mouth of the same eruption. we will continue towards Torre del Filosofo (2920 meters) along the recent still hot lava flows (21-05-2023). After the lunch break we will walk along the edge of the Barbagallo crater admiring the summit craters and the entire eastern coast of Sicily, from Taormina to Syracuse.

Admission Included

Mount Etna

After the walk on the edge of the Barbagallo crater, before starting the descent, we would have the opportunity once again to admire the summit craters of Etna, Central Crater and South-East Crater, with their inevitable plume of gas.

A very good excursion. I climbed to the top of the volcano. My tour guide was Vicenzo. I give him the highest rating. He is a great professional. Throughout the entire trek, I was completely eager for all the interesting things about Mount Etna. He was always smiling and friendly

Overall it was great. The guide was very informative, friendly and funny. The group size was good and the pace was lovely HOWEVER I will state two issues with the advertisement. When I arrived I was told I was 45 m late and was told it states on my ticket that the departure point is 45 m from the meeting point. It also said on my ticket to meet at 10:30 so one would assume to meet at 10:30 and then it’s 45 m travel via cable car to the meeting point or something of the sort. Be aware of this as it’s not very clear. If you have to start at 10:30 it means you need to arrive 45 m before that at the excursion hut, this could be made more clear on the ticket. Secondly there was no jeep ride , I assume by jeep they meant massive jeep like buses but it’s not an actual jeep even though it seems to advertise you get to go in one so that was very disappointing. There was a Jeep parked at the departure point so perhaps it’s used for smaller groups but either way I didn’t get to ride in it and wasn’t offered an explanation.

Loved being able to use the cable cars and all-wheel drive vehicles to get up there. I wasn’t prepared for having to come down, though, without the vehicles. The way down is very steep with all very loose scree that means your feet fall out from under you. If I had known it would be like that, I would have brought walking sticks. Also, there were too many in our group. They divided everyone across 3 guides for Italian, French, & English speaking guests. They were about 10 people in each of the Italian & French speaking groups and almost 50 people in the English speaking group. This made it very difficult for the guide to help guests when needed. It was very, very cold and windy up there so make sure to dress appropriately. I wished I had brought gloves and a buff to put on my face. I’m glad I went, though, and learned lots.

Amazing experience! But this is definitely for people in decent shape, who are not afraid of heights! 5-6 hours of hiking. Had I known how scary some of it was (no ropes, rails- like many mountain hikes) I may not have done it. But again I'm so glad that I did! Poles helped! Our guide was incredible. Extremely knowledgeable and very informative!

Climbing through a lavatube! The views and a great guide. Very interesting to learn about the Etna. Enough time for photo, s and a stop for lunch. The group was about 30 persons.

The tour is well worth the effort and money. But you need to be prepared for harsh winds (most of the tour - 4 hours) and the cold. On the day we were there it was windy and cold (but gorgeous views and sunshine) and three clothing layers were not enough. You do need high altitude gear like ski jackets, warm pants and caps, face warmers and gloves. The tour operator does provide good shoes and extra socks (shoes are great, they have all sizes), but the jackets are not enough. Most of us were freezing cold and a couple people turned back at the beginning of tour due to cold. The walking and altitude is fine, like walking on a sandy beach for most of the hike. Our tour guide was really great. Prepare for wind and cold! No contacts - the wind lifts fine dust the whole trip. The dust gets in your eyes, hair, eyebrows everywhere.

Prompt, well organised, efficient, helpful and amazing. First time on a volcano and with the organisers I felt very secure.

Fantastic tour - it was nice to be brought higher up with the 4x4bus. A very talenter guide with great knowledge and ability to explain about the vulcan and the eruptions. Furthermore he was very aware of the group and helped, when somebody had difficulties.

RedBeardNL

Fantastic tour with a enthusiastic team of guides and great scenery. But beware! The cable car and 4x4 cost extra €45 per person!!
