Porto Santo Stefano

Depart at 9:45 AM from Porto Santo Stefano to discover two of the pearls of the Tuscan archipelago, the islands of Giglio and Giannutri. Explore a place ideal for marine lovers and divers alike. Don’t miss the visit to the village of Giglio Castello, ranked among the most beautiful villages in Italy. See Giannutri, a small paradise with no cars or roads and no major tourism structures, in fact still dominated by the low Mediterranean scrub with its colors and scents. Villa Domizia was built in the first half of the second century A.D. by the Enobarbi, the imperial family that owned Giannutri. They spared no expense to build this residence with a breath-taking view of the coast.  Then visit Giglio island, characterized by its mainly granitic ground and by the typical Mediterranean vegetation, in part formed by man with terracing to allow cultivation of vines and olive trees. The coast, high and steep, is also generally jagged and interspersed with many rocks and a few bays. On the east side, see the coves of Porto, of Arenella and Cannelle, to the west see the long and wide beach of Campese. Enjoy a full meal of fish comfortably seated inside an eco-friendly cruise boat before you return at 6:30 PM.

Faro di Giannutri

After 1 hour navigation stop at Giannutri's island. It is the southernmost island in the Tuscan Archipelago and can be reached from Porto Santo Stefano or Isola del Giglio, 12 and 15 kilometres away, respectively. Boats land at the Bay of Spalmatoio, even if at times, depending on the wind, the boat can arrive at Maestra Bay. The two bays are the only points where the rocky calcareous island opens onto a small beach and where it is possible to swim in the water – swimming is forbidden in the southern part of the island and in some of the northern areas. Giannutri is divided into Zones A and B by the Arcipelago Toscano National Park, where there are the most restrictions.

The tour itself was great! Great location, swimming and food! They had us be there for 8:30 am and only left at 10 am waiting for 100 people to board. Everything was in Italian so we did not understand anything that was going on. If you do not like or do not speak Italian I would think twice.

We had high hopes for this trip and arrived at the spot at 8:30 am as requested. We only left at 10 am and had to wait for the 100 people coming on this trip. The location was beautiful, swimming was great and food awesome! I highly recommend if you do not understand Italian do not go. Everything was in Italian and we had no clue to what was going on.

Nice staff. Good food. Lovely day on the water. Wind prevented going to far side of Giglio so no snorkeling, tiny beach. No English tour. Still a fun day!

A very comfortable way to see Giglio and Giannutri, with plenty of time to enjoy the islands. We were assisted from the very beginning (very clear instructions on where to park and go). The staff on board is polite and the boat is very clean. There is plenty of time to spend on each island, and you don’t feel rushed. I appreciated that you could pick to either be assisted by a guide or to wander and freely explore. Timings are excellent, so you are never on the islands under the scorching sun.

Wonderful day on board the M/N Revenge! Between the crystal clear waters of Giannutri and Isola del Giglio, in the name of availability and friendliness! Good fish-based lunch and excellent quality/price ratio, highly recommended!

Driven by the many positive reviews, we decided to try this experience too. For goodness sake, timetables respected but it was the only advantage in all of this. First of all, the time spent on the ship is really too much: from Porto Santo Stefano to Giannutri and from Giannutri to Giglio it takes an hour and a half each time. But let's start with the organization of the ship: it was full of people and therefore a lot of confusion, children crying, dogs barking, but beyond this the captain gave directions into the microphone and we couldn't hear anything. The singer who entertained us (singer is a big word) never stopped, not even on the return journey when everyone was asleep in their seats, exhausted from the day. Last but not least, the photographer who insisted on photographing even those who didn't want to (poor quality photos) and who caused more chaos than all the passengers put together. Lunch without infamy and without praise, except that we were all hung up and that, being celiac, when booking I selected the "gluten-free" option on their website, I found the waitress having difficulty telling me whether the risotto was contaminated, so not happy she added "don't worry, the pasta is coming" and when I asked if it was gluten-free she rolled her eyes. But let's move on to visiting the two islands. Giannutri is an island abandoned even by God. There is practically nothing except a small square where there is a bar and a restaurant. The beach was very difficult to access (be careful if there are elderly people and/or children) and the water was dirty because the cove was nothing other than the port where the ships docked. The Giglio is much larger, with various places with souvenirs and nice bars (be careful, very high prices, e.g. a €2 coffee), but here we were so tired that we didn't have the strength to find out about any means of transport that could take us to the castle . So we went to the beach and although this was more accessible, the water was dirty here too. In short, if you want advice, save this money, or at least first take a ferry only to the island of Giglio, because it is the only one that deserves a little more.

One day mini-cruise that they found really well organised. The island of Giannutri is very beautiful, recommended for a nice swim in a beautiful sea or for snorkelling. The visit to Giglio was also very pleasant having taken advantage of a guided tour of Giglio castle. And then lastly we cannot fail to mention the entire staff, from the captain to the chef, through to the guides and on-board staff who, with their savoir faire, made this trip truly pleasant in a festive atmosphere. Well done!!
