Your Itinerary

Louis Armstrong Park

Our music tour of New Orleans begins just outside the French Quarter at the historic and beautiful Louis Armstrong Park in the Tremé neighborhood. Within the park, we will talk about the historical origins of jazz and discuss one of the jazz greats, Armstrong himself.

Congo Square

We’ll explore the area originally known as Congo Square – one of the first locations in the city where enslaved people and free people of color were allowed to gather and socialize. You’ll hear about jazz’s origins, resulting from a rich mix of cultures in a single city, which combined West African and Caribbean sounds with European musical influences – giving us this uniquely American artform.

French Quarter

From here, we will head into the Vieux Carre, or the French Quarter, and you’ll hear about the origins and culture of jazz while making your way through the oldest neighborhood in NOLA, all while seeing some notable historic sites. Your guide will have chosen a special route for you that evening- to ensure the best music is heard.

Bourbon Street

Along one possible route, we’ll share the history of Bourbon Street and the residential and commercial places where blues and jazz collaborators came to make incredible music. We may even catch a busker performing at the historic French Market!

Frenchmen Street

Or your guide may chose to head to the famous Frenchmen Street, the largest concentration of live music venues in the city. Whatever path is taken, you’ll find yourself at a great Jazz/Music Spot, and your guide will take you inside to listen and enjoy the local scene.

French Quarter

Either way, by being with a local, you’ll learn all about the neighborhood, how to make the most of your time here, and the music culture and how it operates in the Clubs and venues. And to top it off, you will receive a drink on us at one of the stops and you’re very welcome to purchase additional beverages as and when you want them.

This was a great tour! We learned a lot about the history and origins of jazz, as well as some of the different forms it took over the years. We got to see a lot of important sites and artifacts like one of Louis Armstrong's trumpets! We ended the night with two stops at great jazz clubs to listen to a few different bands, all in all a fantastic experience.

My husband and I meet our tour guide, Sage, by the gates of Louis Armstrong Park. Sage was a font of knowledge regarding the history of jazz in New Orleans and also the current scene. She also was so willing to answer all our questions on not only jazz but all aspects of New Orleans. Sage took us to 2 wonderful jazz venues to listen to some excellent jazz musicians. Thanks Sage for a memorable night.

Our tour guide Valerie is a true local. So many people on the street greeted her. The tour starts with a brief history on slaves and the significance of Congo Park. We had a bit of everything - architecture, aftermath of Katrina, roots of music in NOLA, a bit of local/regional politics with a final stop to hear some great music. Want to feel like a local? Take this tour.

Pepe was absolutely incredible - the best tour guide and experience we had in New Orleans, hands down! We had the most fantastic and fascinating tour on the history and evolution of Jazz/Music in New Orleans, its roots and how New Orleans was the birthplace for Jazz, Blues and eventually Rock n'Roll. We learned so many interesting and insightful facts and Pepe went out of his way to make sure we had the most authentic Jazz experience in New Orleans. Thank you so so much and we look forward to touring with you again, one day soon!!!

Cayge was amazing. She is very into the music which is obvious by her energy and knowledge. Cayge has a bachelors degree in music, so she knows the ins and out of the different music types and is not a redundant canned presenter. The tour ends in 2 jazz clubs which gives you the opportunity to put knowledge to practice.... Go for it, no disappointments on this tour.
