Stonehenge

Early arrival at Stonehenge to ensure the best experience without the crowds. Entrance tickets to Stonehenge are reserved and picked up by your Mad Max guide to avoid queuing and delays. Plenty of time to visit the extensive information centre and wonderful displays. There is also a café for refreshments. Please make sure you have a debit or credit card on the day of the tour to pay for your Stonehenge ticket.

Avebury Stone Circle

Walk freely amongst these magnificent stones. Soak up the atmosphere and the magical charm of this ancient site. Try your hand at dowsing. Time to wander around this pretty village with its 17th century thatched pub.

Silbury Hill

Photo stop. This is the largest human made object in prehistoric Europe. It was built 4800 years ago and took longer to build than Stonehenge. Its purpose is still one of the great unsolved mysteries.

Cherhill White Horse and Monument

(Pass by)

Photo Stop. Cherhill white horse is nearly 300 years old. This beautiful white horse is one of 13 in Wiltshire. Carved out of the chalk hills they appear dramatic against the rich green landscape. These are best viewed and most photogenic when seen from a distance.

Lacock Abbey & Village

Lacock National Trust village is our location for lunch. This is an unspoilt National Trust village that appears as if trapped in time. There has been no major construction here for the last 200 years. Featuring in many films and period dramas including; Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Larkrise to Candleford and Downton Abbey to name a few. Lacock Abbey is one of the few remaining Tudor Monasteries which became home to William Fox Talbot, a major pioneer in photography. The Abbey is open from Spring to Autumn and more details are available on the National Trust website.

Castle Combe Village

An idyllic Cotswold village nestling in a wooded valley.Voted the prettiest village in England. This has been a movie and historical drama film location for; Stardust, Warhorse & Poirot as well as the original Dr Dolittle. Time to wander around the cobbled streets and take in the view from the medieval market cross. Relax by the stream in front of the picture postcard weaver’s cottages. Discover the medieval clock in St Andrews church and the 13th Century tomb of Sir Walter de Dunstanville.

Today we have had a full days trip with Mad max tours with Tim has our guide. He was a font of information and a really nice guy. We decided to do this tour because my cousin and her friend wanted to see Stonehenge and typical Cotswolds village. We were not disappointed although the good old British weather was rather wet! Would recommend this trip.

Heads up! The Company has a policy of moving already settled solo travelers from front seats to the back so late-arriving couples can sit together. Not ask, but telling. I was so surprised, I have had numerous exchanges with the owner, and their reasoning is that people don't like to sit with strangers. Okay, but I arrived early and got a good seat in front, and I'm fine to sit with anybody. The message is that my comfort doesn't matter compared to a couple who arrive late. That, and sexist micro-aggressions the rest of the day. Very pretty country, but there are loads of other companies, for a single person.

Absolutely wonderful day with our tour guide Kevin, He was so personable and shared interesting information and fascinating stories about our sites. Kevin grew up in the area and was able to add local insights. When a road on our route was closed, Kevin didn’t blink an eye and treated us to a fun back-roads route. He made everyone feel comfortable and welcomed and far exceeded my expectations for the tour. Highly recommended!

This tour was great value for what they covered, an all day event that was very informative and scenic (in between towns). Jerry, our driver and tour guide was very attentive, enthusiastic and engaging...made the tour that much more enjoyable. We highly recommend the Mad Max, truly one of the best tours we ever taken.

The tour was pretty much as expected and is obviously very popular as I had to book months in advance. Two photo stops that were advertised as part of the tour didn’t happen. I was particularly disappointed that I only got a fleeting glimpse of the Cherhill White Horse. People sitting on the other side of the bus wouldn’t have even got that. Our driver was safe and a personable and knowledgeable guide

Everything was done to perfection! The trip was timed perfectly and we had enough time at each location. Our host, Gerry, is amazing. He was so informative. Please give him my Tampa Bay Rays baseball hat I left in the van!! And the weather held out!!
