Trier

The grandiose architectural legacy of its history today includes impressive eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This includes the landmark of the city: the Porta Nigra (180 BC), one of the best-preserved Roman city gates north of the Alps. The huge sandstone blocks weigh up to 6 tons! The fantastic basilica with the throne hall of Emperor Constantine. The amphitheater, scene of gruesome gladiator battles and bloodthirsty battles between humans and animals. Finally, the Imperial Baths, which were among the largest baths of the Roman Empire. The old Roman bridge, probably the oldest bridge in our country. The cathedral with the world-famous relic, the "Holy Rock" and the Liebfrauenkirche, the oldest gothic church in Germany. The Electoral Palace is considered one of the most beautiful Rococo palaces in Europe.

Personalized tour, my husband and I were the only ones with the guide. Exceptional city, a must see, being one of the oldest in Germany, with roman ruins, Rococo architecture, and a beautiful german style town square.

We really enjoyed touring the city of Trier. Seeing the ancient Roman wall and so many of the Roman buildings in a city that was founded in 17 BC was mind-boggling. We took a ride on the trolley and got an overview of the city, and then Peter led us on a walking tour of the points of interest. My favorites were climbing to the various floors of the Porta Nigra, the town gate, and walking around the ancient Amphitheater. Going inside the three beautiful churches was also a high point of the day. The Imperial Baths looked amazing, but they were closed for construction when we were there. We also saw the Roman Bridge and walked through the Palace Gardens, which will be lovely as the spring buds and blooms start coming out. The personal attention from being in a small group with our own guide made for a delightful day.

George was fabulous as our guide. A full day tour. He was so accommodating and offered different sites as it had rained in a lot of areas. Just perfect.

I was told the day before that the tour was not running - Given that I had booked some months earlier this was particularly dissapointing. The tour operator was not particularly friendly or helpful
