About Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras (or Fat Tuesday in French) is a carnival celebration which has its roots in Christian and is all about eating rich fatty foods before people sacrifice for Lent. Like Easter its date moves each year but is generally held around late February or early March.

Mardi Gras is celebrated differently around the World from UK to Belgium, Germany to Sweden, but often when people think about Mardi Gras, images of New Orleans in Louisiana, United States come into your head.

Decorations, elaborate displays, and parades of people around the streets in full party mood. Floats full of people in costumes, party people drinking in the streets collecting beads, colourful outfits, and beautiful masks. Music and dance play an important part of Mardi Gras in New Orleans as it also does in Sydney Australia or at Brazil’s carnival season – most famously on the streets of Rio.

Lots of cold beers and themed cocktails for your guests, and potentially hire a mobile bar with professional bar service. Look for a venue or hall that you can decorate in Mardi Gras style and see if your guests are happy to get in costume. Perhaps consider a boat party with a DJ or live band and bring a bit of the Mississippi River style to your next event.
