Oktoberfest has changed since it began as a wedding celebration over 200 years ago in Munich, this German festival is now a worldwide phenomenon celebrating Bavarian culture and flowing pints of beer.

With over 6 million people attending the original event in Munch each year and tickets selling out quickly it is no surprise that local Oktoberfest celebrations can be found all over the world including other German cities such as Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, and Frankfurt: and global destinations including London, Brisbane, and Hong Kong.

The classic Oktoberfest festival conjures up images of beer tents, large Steins of beer, with participants, waiters, and waitresses in traditional Bavarian clothing of dirndls and lederhosen to a soundtrack of German music.

During Oktoberfest many pubs, bars and breweries will have scheduled events, and maybe able to host private parties or brewery tours where you could get the opportunity to see beer brewing in action.

If your birthday or stag party falls around Oktoberfest why not create your own Oktoberfest party? Hire a marquee, tables, and bench to create your own Bavarian beer tent in your garden or office. Many catering suppliers can provide German food and beer snacks, and beers can be delivered to your venue. Perhaps you could consider hiring a beer tasting expert to teach and entertain your group.
