Your Itinerary

Bridge of Sighs

(Pass by)

The Bridge of Sighs is an iconic feature of St John’s College, and one of the most recognisable pieces of architecture in Cambridge. Built nearly 200 years ago, it is the only covered bridge to cross the River Cam, and the only College bridge built in the Victorian Gothic style.

King's College Chapel

(Pass by)

King’s College Chapel is perhaps the most iconic building in Cambridge. Work on this Chapel only started five years after King’s College was founded by Henry VI in 1441..

Trinity College

(Pass by)

The history of Trinity goes back to the reign of Henry VIII and most of its major buildings date from the 16th and 17th centuries. Trinity has provided 32 Nobel Prize winners since they were first awarded in 1901

Queens' College

(Pass by)

Queens' is one of the oldest colleges of the university, founded in 1448 by Margaret of Anjou. The college spans the River with the Mathematical Bridge connecting the two sides.

Darwin College

(Pass by)

The college is named after one of the university's most famous families and alumni, that of Charles Darwin. The Darwin family previously owned some of the land, Newnham Grange, on which the college now stands.

Clare College

(Pass by)

Founded in 1326 and endowed a few years later by Lady Elizabeth de Clare, a granddaughter of King Edward. Clare College is the second oldest of Cambridge’s thirty-one colleges. Alumni include Sir David Attenborough. Viewed from the river, The Fellows’ Garden is one of the most admired gardens in Cambridge

Trinity Hall

(Pass by)

Trinity Hall is the fifth-oldest surviving college of the university, having been founded in 1350 by William Bateman, Bishop of Norwich, to train clergymen in canon law following decimation of their numbers during the Black Death.

Mathematical Bridge

(Pass by)

One of the most persistent myths on the river is that Queens' bridge was designed by Sir Isaac Newton and originally built without any kind of connection at the joints. Further stories have suggested that a group of students disassembled the bridge to discover how it stood up and then couldn't put it back together. In fact, the bridge was originally built 22 years after the great physicist's death and, although it has been rebuilt twice to the same design, there have always been fixings at the joints. However, the fixings on the original bridge were less visible than those on the current structure, possibly leading to the myth of the curious but inept students.

Sam did a great tour for us this afternoon. Pleasant and well hosted. Felt safe, at ease and was lovely to listen about the history and to quite literally lay back and enjoy. Have used this place for all my visits and although have mainly canoed, being punted in a private boat with family was worth the experience! Law has a great team here and worth the little walk across the Fen to get here and enjoy the lovely Granta pub and Millworks restaurant too Thanks again, I’ll be back :)

When we got off the train at Cambridge from London, there were some guys from this company promoting their "punting" tours of Cambridge on the river. They were super friendly and very much no-pressure. We had already wanted to do this so we signed up for a shared guided tour. Wow, were we ever disappointed by the experience, completely because of our guide, Henry. First of all, we were told that the guides were Cambridge students. That turned out not to be the case with our guide. But that was the least of our issues. We wanted to know more about the history of Cambridge, hear some interesting stories about the town and school. Instead, Henry was so incredibly cynical — of the school, the monarchy, pretty much everything. He mocked this, criticized that. He went on to talk about how some of the guides make up stories, which made us wonder how much of what he was telling us was true. Then, in a rant about Darwin and how his theory of evolution shouldn't be called a theory—that it was as true as the law of gravity—he chose to say very harsh and disrespectful things about the notion that there could be a God. As Christians, we were very offended. On what is likely to be our only visit to Cambridge, this really colored our experience in a very negative way. If you're going on a punting tour, use a different company. There are several other options.

I didn’t want to jump into writing a public review so I addressed my issue to company privately. No reply so I wrote a google review which I cannot find so I’m here. I paid 60£ for two students tickets and was excited to attend. We were told at the station all about this deal and how there would be a lot of space on the boat. However, we come in and we are crowded to maximum capacity onto a boat which was the opposite of ‘lots of space’. I just let that issue go and just wanted to enjoy the experience. However, the guide was literally speeding and rushing through whilst I observed other guides slowly stopped around points so people could take pictures etc. The guide was also talking so dull with 0 enthusiasm, like he was forced to do this job. I am in no way attacking the guide as it’s understandable it’s not ideal having to pull a crowded boat and it was probably a really long day for him. However, at the end of the day I paid £60 and I would want at least some good service. Moreover, I was told the tour was supposed to be 50 min and it only lasted 40- I know it’s just a 10 minute difference but the point is if I purchase something and I’m told one thing, it should be that way.

Went on a private guided tour with our family and Alice was punting and we had a lovely time. Alice was knowledgeable, kind, and friendly and an excellent punter who expertly navigated less accomplished drivers! She knew so much interesting information about Cambridge and the colleges and answered every question we had. Would highly recommend.

The company touted at the train station and put up the prices for Cambridge boat tour at £40 per pax. The staff would persuade you to take the tour offering a “discounted” price at £25. However, if you go to the punting site, everyone was offering £20 for adult. Their dock is super far from everyone else’s. Be prepared to walk 10-15 min extra to go to the other side of the river for the same experience. The crew was not even narrating much during the entire boat ride which only lasts 40 mins, contrary to what they claimed 50 mins and what others offered 60 mins. They also cut short of the route compared to the rest. Felt cheated. Don’t recommend.

Thank you Peter for a fabulous punting experience. Our visiting guest from Japan and our very large dog both had areat time - as longtime residents of Cambridge we still learned lots of new, interesting bits of history and fun anecdotes. Punting is always a treat but this was exceptional. Please also thank your colleague who greeted us and made sure all was well as we set off and returned. Cheers!

When we first got there for 11.00am really should of took a name but the young girl who greeted us with a lovely smile and just happy to see us was a breath of fresh air. It makes anybody's day when you are greeted with a smile, so thank you.

Terrible experience. Ticket seller only cares about selling tickets. Gives wrong instruction. Was guaranteed a front row seat but didn’t get it. No communication between ticket booth and the staff. The punter was fine, but can hear better guide from other boat. Extremely expensive. Have better and cheaper option right next to the Queens college entrance.

The punt up the river was relaxing , informative and very enjoyable with our guide Marton. However, please don’t buy your ticket at £4o from outside the railway station. Others paid £25.
